Cold Bow 2025.... QnA Thread

@robby denning am I understanding it correctly in that there's no limit on number of people that participate that will go in the prize drawing, but they have to finish within a few days of the 100th person finishing?
Yeah, only 100 people can be eligible for the prizes but every year a few guys still jump in after we hit the limit to test themselves.

Plus sometimes a few people (of the first 100) disqualify so we’ll take the next ones already in past 100.

I actually like the idea of changing MER based on conditions but I understand why mods might not let that happen. Mine would have changed for me yesterday based on environmental factors (wind)
Yeah, man. We beat this up pretty good in the first couple of years and finally decided to just stay with a constant MER as it is the “maximum” distance a guy should take an ethical shot at based on his personal limitations/conditions

Our thinking was that if the conditions were not good, you just passed that shot for that day which lots of guys have. The contest fills so fast now though that that it’s pressure on day one that you may not get a slot lol. But this year there was still around 20 slots left at end of day one

I know for me personally that being forced to shoot in the wind for this really exposes my limitations…so on the mountain I’m even more disciplined, to get closer if it’s gonna be windy.

@Ryan K Sanpei great to have you back in the challenge man. And Day 1 arrow in the money ! (Post #78)

For those new to the challenge, one year Ryan picked a water bottle as his MER and we were all thinking “a 14 ounce water bottle for an MER with a trad bow?“ But he nailed it! And had the on-the-mountain video to prove it.

@Howard Mee man talk about shaving your vitals two days in a row, and I love the crowd booing at the end of your videos (post#4) Hilarious. you’re definitely pushing yourself. I’m getting ready to go shoot mine here in a little bit. Nice and windy today.

Thank you Robby! It's good to be back again!!!

I was looking at the 2024 CBC posts (just compound). I'm probably the only one who finds this interesting, but I put some numbers to the results. I was noticing in my own shooting leading up to this years CBC, that BHs tend to hit noticeably lower than FPs past 60 yds or so. So much so, that at 70 yds my slider is set to 71.5 yds for center POI. When I looked at the data from last year, POI on MER 60+ yds tends to be low not high.

TLDR - dont forget to adjust for BH trajectory, more drop, past 60 yds on this years shots

I would have waited till Monday to actually shoot where I could have had the wind blocked if I thought a slot was going to be open. Yesterday I only had time to shoot in back yard and today I'm not picking up my bow to spend time with wife and baby for mother's day.

I will practice plenty in the wind going forward so I can test my true wind MER for hunting this fall. My favorite wind is about a steady 5-8 mph wind. That amount helps cover noise but doesn't affect flight too bad and I can normally shoot 50-55 well

Didn't hit the sister in laws van so calling it a win

Broadhead was super loud this morning, I think I should have replaced the retention pin in the Hyde :(

But hey, if the blade opens on impact and nicks the vitals…maybe that’s a line call haha

Dang, that’s a tough one, if overspray counts as the line, you’re in

man this is such a good exercise.
I would’ve bet almost anything I’d put 6 in a 7” circle at 60. My first shot I barely cut my line low right, my second was out of my circle to the left. The broadheads, the single shot, the nerves, it’s a cool exercise.

I didn’t put a dot on my plate on purpose and I feel myself fighting to be in the center.
