Cold Bow 2025.... QnA Thread

How many guys are shooting with a quiver and full load of arrows? Just curious, I have a habit of not shooting with a quiver most of the off season.

Mother day plans today/morning, church, then ILs for bbq. So I’ll shoot my second tomorrow morning and third probably Tuesday evening or so. Might jump on the video train 🤷‍♂️

This weather is killing me, crazy hot for early May and windy even by ND standards... Back to low-mid 60's for the highs by next weekend though, so a bit more normal finally. I was going to try to get my shot in before I leave for work tomorrow morning, going to be lucky to hit 1/3 with the way it's looking!

I usually practice with 1 arrow out of my quivalizer ha. Certainly helps

man this is such a good exercise.
I would’ve bet almost anything I’d put 6 in a 7” circle at 60. My first shot I barely cut my line low right, my second was out of my circle to the left. The broadheads, the single shot, the nerves, it’s a cool exercise.

I didn’t put a dot on my plate on purpose and I feel myself fighting to be in the center.
This is why we keep hosting this challenge.

We all remember our best days/groups but when there is no do-over, things change for a lot of guys

And no dot makes it harder too

Not sure what later week looks like, but you don’t have to shoot consecutive days —which makes it harder in its own way, but 30 mile an hour winds!?

Back in the day, Chuck Adams used to preach that you had to shoot with a quiver full of arrows but nowadays with modern bows, I can remove my quiver dropping a pound or more off my bow, and I can’t tell that it changes the point of impact out to reasonable yardages. But I do shoot with a quiver full minus one most of the time anyways.

@stonewall good on you for posting that first miss (#post 90)... 👊

Counting pins, remembering to dial, that’s all part of this challenge too,

and if it makes you feel any better, I believe arrow one of the 2023 challenge, I used the wrong pin and miffed it.

One of the best archery bucks I ever had a chance at, I did the same thing, didn’t count pins.

See you on your next arrow.

It looks about like what I would expect if I were on a week long hunting trip...hot/windy early in the week, then temps drop 30-40* and rainy/windy the last half of the week with no comfortable in-between. :ROFLMAO:

My goal for this off-season was to get out and shoot in more uncomfortable conditions and get used to the wind drift, holding steadier, different wind angles, all those random weather scenarios that could come up on a trip in the fall. This is a good excuse to do that I suppose!

Taped vitals fell off last night, thought maybe I would shoot better without it as thats how I have been practicing. Nope Oh boy first humble pie , now choke cherry juice.
I think I know whats going on but cant confirm it til I finish tomorrow.
I changed my shot sequence to pulling thru with my arm instead of firing the release with my finger.]

I was looking at the 2024 CBC posts (just compound). I'm probably the only one who finds this interesting, but I put some numbers to the results. I was noticing in my own shooting leading up to this years CBC, that BHs tend to hit noticeably lower than FPs past 60 yds or so. So much so, that at 70 yds my slider is set to 71.5 yds for center POI. When I looked at the data from last year, POI on MER 60+ yds tends to be low not high.

TLDR - dont forget to adjust for BH trajectory, more drop, past 60 yds on this years shots

Again, just cause I was curious about mechanical vs fixed head shooter results from 2024....

Fixed blade shooters seem pretty dialed inside 60 yds. The trend is low to on target across the board.

I used to never shoot with my quiver on and would take it off when on a stalk. After wounding an animal once and not having a backup arrow on hand right away I now shoot with quiver on all the time.

Are you getting into the 90s up there as well? Where im at in SD it's in the 90s for next 3 days. Wind is 15-30 mph for next few days and gusting over 40 mph at times.

Yep, sitting at 92* still at almost 6pm. Looks like it'll start tapering off Wednesday night and then into the cold and rain or a few days.

Here's a very, very small data set in regards to velocity loss with a few different broadheads.
Edit, I'm an idiot and didn't link...

I’m shooting fixed blades for this challenge with my sight dialed in for mechanicals and hit about 4-5” low of my aim point both days. I always start to notice a difference past 60ish. Gap gets bigger the farther back I shoot
