Cold Bow 2025.... QnA Thread

Well I made it to the shop today.
Evidently I suck at back tension wrist rocket shooting.
Jake at North Idaho Archery shot it bullet holes.
I must have been good when lots of reps were done but 1 shot per day I went to crap.
He did shim the cams some and coached me thru shooting a thumb release.
Night and day difference.
Bought one and came home to get it down pat.
This has been a learning experience for sure. Thanks again.

The thing I tell people who are learning to shoot with a wrist rocket, or a thumb button that aren't manipulating it similar to a hinge, is pull, pull and try to break the riser in half.

Back tension is the key to shooting. You don't hafta use a hinge to do it. The problem with a command shot is your brain starts to short circuit and you letup before the shot goes off.

Lots of very accurate command shooters, but they shoot with a lot of back tension.

Focus on 2 thing, where you want your arrow to go, and pulling. The exaggerated backhand swing is a bit much, but it helps to enforce back tension through the shot.

This challenge and my (poor) performance gave me a good reason to do a bit of a reset with my bow setup. It just wasn't feeling right, so I went back to the basics and pulled everything off of the string. My peep was too high, which was making my anchor too low and the arrow sit too low on my chin. That was throwing shots left and right depending on my head position. I retied my nock points, retied the d-loop and shortened it about 1/8", lowered the peep about 1/8" and double checked the timing on the draw board.

It's feeling much better and more consistent now and giving me more of a warm fuzzy feeling going into TAC in about a month.

Got my last shot in yesterday late morning! Updated my post today. Not the greatest conditions, red flag warning and windy, but needed to get it done. Sorry for the hold up, sometimes the kiddos (and wife) throw wrenches into the schedule. Last week especially! Lol

This was my first CBC. Really enjoyed the challenge and motivation to get started early with tuning, and making shots under some level of pressure. Thanks to everyone for putting this on and sponsoring! I’ll be back next year for sure

Some of us have to drive a minimum of 30 minutes to find a free place to shoot an arrow far enough for the challenge
It felt strange to dive 30 minutes get the targets and bow ready to go, shoot AN arrow and then pack everything up and drive 30 minutes back.

I'm glad I did the challange and I'm glad that it's over so that its not an hour+ for a single shot.

Being a forester makes shooting easy and I usually just shoot wherever I am at the end of the day but going back to college changed that and last week was finals so I didn’t get a chance to get out. I completed my second shot this afternoon and it’s just as bad as the first. Hopefully I can at-least score one hit with my compound this year. Gapping pins is something I haven’t practiced at longer ranges and this made me realize I need to do it more.

Yeah, kinda same here. I could shoot 50 yds in the yard into my garage, but with being “technically” in town and down the street from a school and day care nearby, I’ve been opting to go to a nearby spot 15 mins down the road. Just not worth any risk. Especially I’m in shooting BHs in the yard…back limit that to 20-30 yds and anything further I force myself to go to a better spot.

Good job man.

It literally takes 5 minutes to go out in the yard and shoot AN arrow. 🤷🏻
I'm done, but isn't that easy for everyone. I've been on jobs working 7-12s and leave and get home in the dark. and not every campground I'm in is conducive to shooting bows either.

All done! I wish I'd have been able to set my target up in realistic scenarios, but didn't have the time. I likely would have had 0/3... I was barely at 2/3 with level ground shots! But, each shot was really rushed so I did get the stress and time component in there
