Looking forward to the rules and hopefully shooting this.

Lots of people make it sound like you have to shoot 600 yards. I don't claim 600 as my MER, but would like to compete. Is there a 600 yard minimum? From what's available so far, I read it as 600 yards was only a minimum/pre-requisite if your claimed MER is greater than 600.

You don't have to shoot 600 yards. You have to pick YOUR MER, which could be 300, 400, 500, etc.

The only thing we watch for is the people picking shorter yardage because that's "all their local range goes to."

Same as in the cold bow challenge when someone says their MER is 25 yards because they don't want to drive somewhere to shoot and can only get 25 yards at their home.

As realunlucky and Justin have said, this challenge is all about personal growth, personal challenge and finding out your MER and it will certainly show each of us what your limitations will be. And remember.......its also supposed to be FUN!
I'm looking forward to it.

Randy

I have to drive a long 5 minutes to the "range."🙂

Great. Sounds like I should be able to shoot it. Will keep an eye out for the official rules.

Can I paint the 10" circle on my already existing plate? I don't want to buy a round plate just for the challenge.

After I go 2 for 2 what happens if I have a miss?
Yes, I plan to paint a 10" circle on my 12" square plate.

Shooting will go like this.

Day 1: One shot at your MER (assuming it's under 600 yards). Hit or miss doesn't matter.
Day 2: One shot at your MER (assuming it's under 600 yards). Hit or miss doesn't matter.
You take a photo or video of each of those shots and post them in the official thread I'll be posting. You'll get one chance in the drawing for prizes.

For those who think their MER is past 600 yards. You will shoot days one and two at (or very close to) 600 yards, and you'll be required to hit both days to move on.

Day 3: One shot at your MER over 600 yards. Hit or miss doesn't matter.
Day 4: One shot at your MER over 600 yards. Hit or miss doesn't matter.

Post a photo or video of your four shots; you'll get two entries in the drawing.

Remember, there is no shooting other than official shots from the first day you choose to shoot until you have fired all your shots for the challenge.

This makes sense. My MER is usually 500yds. But I see no reason not to stretch this out. I'll try for ~700yds on this challenge. Worse case scenario is I miss at 600yds 😂

Only US residents eligible for the prize draw?

Edit: either way I will play to challenge myself.
great question!!!! You can win but we or sponsors can't absorb excessive fees to get the prize to you. We handle it on a case-by-case, and some winners have forfeited prizes if they didn't want to pay the excessive fees, border costs, etc.

No practice on day of/in between the 2/4 shots...

Can we shoot other firearms? It would be nice to make use of the trip by putting effort into pistol improvement, or blasting away with the kid on the rimfire range.

There should be extra points for a real muzzleloader at 150yds. Real being real BP and any muzzleloader ignition system and used prior to 1850. Ball only

This is to simulate a hunting senerio, so not allowed to practice shooting in between.

While I agree some things are vastly different we don't want to have to go though and identify every single one and say yea or nay.

You could shoot your "real" muzzleloader at your MER and be entered in a single time.

The only extra entry this year will be for 600 yards+ that's because of the qualifying rounds needed before moving on to the +yards

As realunlucky stated, we will run it with no other shooting this year and see how it goes.

I understand wanting to make a range session or trip to the mountains more productive. Ultimately we decided to run it the same as the cold bow challenge this year. We'll evaluate how everything goes the first time and consider changes next year as needed.
