Am I the only one that takes a insulated container of Java for during the day too? Using a small Nalgene bottle with a beer can cozy wrapped around it. Still looking for a UL thermos to really keep it hot throughout the day. I drink coffee on the trail and off it!

Folgers singles are WAY!!! cheaper, and although I don't think they taste as good, the difference in a box of each is an entire mountain house meal $$$ wise. I like starbucks as much as the next guy, but not that much. Starbucks in my Keurig is cheaper per serving. I also use the folgers bags.

We definitely brew up a pot of real coffee in the am when not bivvying out. Sure tastes good in the truck on the way, and ususally there is some left when you get back.

We did folgers singles for a few seasons before the vias hit the market. They were so terrible, I ended up drinking tea instead...I am no coffee snob, but they don't even resemble anything close to coffee in my experience :)

I totally understand what you are saying about the cost savings...but I am willing to splurge a little on a combo of the Nescafé and vias we can get on sale if it means avoiding having to drink folgers singles ever again :)

My wife always finds Via at the Bargain stores around town that has expired for about 30 cents a packet. I seriously doubt that instant coffee will go bad in a sealed pouch. I certainly can't taste the difference between fresh ones and these. In fact, this summer I found a ziplock in my camping stuff filled with Via's that expired 5 years ago, and they were great.

Hands down the best insulated thermos made is the Backpack bottle by Nissan Thermos. I'm not sure how much gram counting you are doing but for keeping drinks hot (or cold) for extended periods in any weather there is not a better bottle.
An unfilled standared Nalgene bottle weighs 6.5oz.
This thermos weighs 11.5 oz but it does hold less. 32oz vs 16oz

I have been using this bottle while treestand hunting for over 10 years. A little Krylon camo paint or camo duct tape eliminates the ss shine.
The one-hand opening, drinking and closing makes it perfect when holding a bow. No pouring or separate cup to fool around with. Also fits in any standard cup holder in your vehicle.
If you pre-heat the bottle with hot water before adding your coffee it can almost be dangerous until you realize that the coffee will still be scalding hot hours later.

LostArra.....looks like those bottles come in brown and green already...they also make a 24oz one. I do try to limit weight where and when I can but having hot coffee for hours on end just might be worth the weight....especially when the temps drop and sitting and glassing this Oct. Thanks for the info!

Thanks for all the replies I'm gonna order some via's before my trip to try. Pretty sure they'll be in the pack this year. Thanks again for all the info!

No you are not. I use an old 16oz foam insulated Aladdin cup w/ lid that I use for my coffee, it then becomes my cold cereal breakfast bowl later once we're spotting.
I probably should upgrade to some sort of Ti vacuum sealed cup, but usually they're too deep for my spoon. And they're expensive.

On a whim I just s\bought one of those plastic and mesh MSR single cup coffee filter things. It is very light and makes very good coffee when I have experimented with it at home. I will try it out on the trail this weekend.

I have packed instant, the folgers pouches, etc. but always go back to packing some grounds and making boiled coffee. Letting the grounds settle or straining them through one of the spare socks works just fine. I have packed made coffee in a nalgene and drunk it cold as 5milesBack or reheated it in a cup.

You might make sure that 24oz one has the same drinking spout for hot liquids. And check it's weight.
