I hate being OCD, makes mixing camo to a large extent painful....

I hate mixing camo, but I love having the best (for me) of everything, and I haven't been able to accomplish that using only one mfg's product offerings. In the end, mixing camos is a sort of meta camo in and of itself.

I never wear matching camo! Wearing all one camo makes me feel like a cheesy brand x magazine advertisement. Then again I rarely wear camo pants and most of my jackets are now solid earth tones so it’s clearly not that important to me.

I stopped in a COP&W office yesterday to grab a turkey hunting guide and there was a line of guys manually applying for tags.

1. Who still goes to the a office to put in applications?

2. Who waits until the last day to actually to go an office to manually apply?

3. Apparently every person who does this wears camo head to toe on a warm Tuesday in early April.

Which makes me wonder if they got up and put on camo because they were going to apply for tags much the same way a weekend Harley guy might dress up for a biker rally or are they just the full on camo every day type of guys?

Very much this. I received a bunch of camo Sitka clothing for Christmas this year, and I've ended up buying a number of my favorite pieces in solid colors too for everyday wear. There are a number of items (like the Kelvin Active) that I'd buy in a solid color in a heartbeat if they offered it.
The Kelvin Active in a solid would be my ultimate jacket!

No kidding. Seems to always have my temperature right where I want it. And they make the women's version in a solid color!

Got a Kuiu Versa Jacket hoping for a similar result since it's a lightly insulated jacket with Kuiu's active synthetic insulation (the same stuff they use in the Kenai), and it's not even in the ballpark in terms of breathability (not sure how it compares to the Kenai). Definitely warmer than the Kelvin Active, but I've found myself sweating like crazy just sitting still with it on. It's a great jacket if you want a very light synthetic insulation piece with great warmth-to-weight ratio, but "active" insulation it is not.

It depends on what kind of lifecycle you're shooting for with your gear. Some people like to sell gear to move into the next iteration or technology, but some people would prefer to transition it from their hunting lineup to their everyday wear. My hunting clothing is waaay nicer than most of my everyday wear, and I wish I had the forethought to buy solids so that I could wear it away from the field whenever I moved on to the next big thing.

And before anyone says to just wear camo for everyday wear- I'll have to pass. I prefer to go unnoticed in public and at the trailhead, and I feel that wearing clothing in camo patterns that the average person has never seen before does not achieve that end.
I just recently bought all my gear in preparation for my first out west hunt this coming year and have had this thought several times.

I want to make a trip out mid summer to get an idea of the area and have thought multiple times.....wish I had some of this stuff in solids so I dont look like a dummy mid summer Haha

As far as camouflage goes, I've always found it interesting that people will wear head to toe matching camouflage... when the only thing really sticking out of the brush is their bright pink face. It's been my experience that a good facemask does more to hide a person in bow range than any camouflage jacket.

Either way, I stick with Fred Bear's take on the best camo pattern - sit down and be quiet.
