Cabela's/Basspro buying Kuiu?

If they buy it i'd definitely be out. Cabeles had decent camo 10-15 years ago. Basically a joke since the Bass Pro merger. I guess I better stock up now berfore its to late.

Smells smokey… buy your kuiu now if you need anything. BassPro can’t figure out how not to ruin something. They might have excess capital after the sportsmens deal got killed.

Not during the negotiations. BassPro is also not publicly traded so less worries about information.

Look at the tags on pretty much anything you wear…. Not much different. I’ve ran a lot of gear. A ton of kuiu. All year long and really hard. In my experience it’s been one of the top when it comes to quality. I don’t care what it says or what color. I just use gear that works. Some of my other favorites is hiking/mountaineering gear. Not a fanboy of any. Just want good fit, longevity, and functionality and for me majority of the kuiu gear has checked those box’s.

Not for me at all. Crappy stitching, real bad piling after one or two washes, ripping at the seams on packs, rain gear that completely wets out.

Just to name a few instances I’ve seen in their cheaply made gear.

While I had better luck with Kuiu than First Lite, their stuff was also pretty delicate. I remember a Kenai jacket I had that was falling apart with little use. The Canadian stuff was actually fairly good.

Sitka has been the most durable of the “high end” camo pieces, I still have the very first piece I bought years ago. It’s survived devils club and blackberries and while there are some pulls in the fabric it’s still in good condition considering how old it is and how hard it’s been used.

For the topic at hand - it wouldn’t surprise me if BPS tries to buy(or has purchased) Kuiu. They’ll run it into the ground like they did with Cabelas… while along the way milking the fanboys as much as possible.

Yeah I really don't understand guys who can claim Kuiu is "quality" and lasts long. I averaged just over 300 days in the field from 2010 to 2021 and tried out many of their pieces. Also have a couple other property managers and fish and game friends with similar experiences when you really use the gear daily. Guys saying they "run" gear (whatever that means) year round I guarantee you that is probably 5-10 trips out maximum if their actually being honest (rare on forums like these). That's not testing a garments quality and durability at all in my opinion.

Agree, back to topic on this... I wouldn't be surprised at all if they sold to BPS either. Let's them compete with Sportsmans Warehouse which offers the "high end hunting gear" in Sitka. Could be their answer to that. If they leave production to Kuiu and simply become a distributor not much will change with their clothing. If they buy the brand they will certainly get it into their more mass produced clothing lines to increase profit margins. All their camo patterns everywhere too, socks, underwear, hats, glasses, etc.

I averaged 301 days in the field from 2010 to 2021…… and that was without a pack cover too!!

Well I average over a 100 days in the field a year so probably well over a 1000 from 2010-2021 this between multiple species rifle seasons, archery seasons, upland bird, etc in some pretty gnarly country. Then wear the gear for fishing, scouting, shooting etc year around. I guess I’ve had better luck then you. To each their own. And I don’t baby my gear. I’ve tried it all. Nothing let forever if you use it hard and often.

Bass Pro already sell Sitka at their stores and online. They don't have the full line, just some pieces. Could be the same deal here.
