Anyone have any experience with the many options available on Amazon?

I've been waiting for Costco. Either they don't sell them anymore or just not on the east coast, can't find them on the Website either.

Anyway I would love something in that $30 price range as I'm trying to put my money into boots and shelter this year.

Any experienced recommendations greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Gary

where are you hunting?

i would be hesitant to carry cheap trekking poles into rocky or terrain with lots of boulders etc.

i have heard stories of cheap poles breaking and not staying together. just make sure they will hold up is my only thought.

Cascade mountain are the Costco ones. They're not bad, I have a couple sets of the aluminum ones for the kids that I've used from time to time. The plastic hardware might fail over time but they're solid enough for the kids. I personally run nicer/lighter poles but if you need an intro set the cascade ones are good and it never hurts to have a backup/loaner pair if you ever upgrade.

If money is really tight a pair of ski poles will work. Down sides are they are not compact, and can't be lengthened or shortened when moving up and down hills.

Northern Wyoming. Mostly day hunts.

Bought a pair of the Cascades off of Amazon last year. Didn't use them as much as I thought I would have. But they worked great. I got the carbon fiber ones and for the price, you can't beat them. I also use them to set up my tarp, for a quick shelter when nasty weather blows through. Worth the price alone to not have to sit in freezing rain.

I bought a pair a couple months ago, carbon fiber with cork grips, and have used them on several training hikes. So far they are great.
