Spring bear was killed by our voters. I don’t think it will ever come back. I don’t believe CPW can change that on their own.

Yep, that's what happens when you leave all the voting power to the people. They could do the same with all hunting here in CO with just a simple vote, and with the liberal controlled government we elected this year.......I wouldn't doubt if we see much more of those kinds of things on the ballet.

People also need to understand exactly who and what the Colorado Wildlife Commission is. They set all the rules and regulations for the state of Colorado parks and wildlife and are appointed by the governor. It's not the department of wildlife that makes all the hunting decisions.

"The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission is a citizen board, appointed by the Governor, which sets regulations and policies for Colorado’s state parks and wildlife programs. The 11 voting members of the commission include three members who are sportsmen or sportswomen, one of whom must be an outfitter; three agricultural producers; three recreationalists, including one from a non-profit, non-consumptive wildlife organization; two at-large members. Members are expected to represent all parks and wildlife related issues, regardless of their affiliation. A minimum of four commissioners must be from west of the Continental Divide. The Executive Director of the Department of Natural Resources and the Commissioner of Agriculture also serve on the commission as ex-officio members. "

What’s sad about all of this is due to the limited hunting seasons these emotional decisions put into place the department of wildlife has to kill a lot of these bears and leave them to rot. This is according to kifarucast at least...

I think if these people saw the whole picture or spent any time hunting and enjoying the meat they harvest they would have a different mindset.

With CO politics moving further left each year I don’t see it ever even coming up to be put on a ballot ever again.

If you read the proposal you will see that the new fees are designed to be higher then a license sale. So in effect they will be encouraging you to buy a licence in lieu of paying a point or application fee on each app.

I have no problem buying a license in each state. It's pretty much a wash at this point anyway.

Ah, I didn’t see the increase PP cost, just the application fee going up from $3 to $9. Currently all the big game tags include a license, which means if you hunt every year preference points are “free”. I did pay $40 for a mule deer PP since I hadn’t hunted CO previously. If they keep the $50 small game/fishing license fee in lieu of $40 preference points per species, it wouldn’t be a big change.

Incentive to buy a licence vs pay individual point fees.
They should just have a license requirement and and make it simple. I think every state should just go to a license and small at cost application fee for each draw.

No time for knowledge gathering or reliance on facts in an emotional decision!

There's still 580 bear tags available on the Leftover List - Go get ya one.

I’m talking September rifle hunts. You can’t buy a regular season bear tag anyways without having a deer or elk tag anyways, so I can’t go buy a tag...

Wrong.

In 2018 you can get a B List Bear tag that is a Rifle Hunt in September WITHOUT having a deer/elk tag.
And there were leftovers.

Always helpful to read/know the Regs and see whats NEW each year

Maybe you should read the regs, if you want to have a bear tag during the concurrent deer/elk rifle seasons you have to have a valid deer/elk tag during one of the 4 rifle seasons. During the September you don’t have to have a rifle tag but those are given during a draw, and a lot of these areas require a point or so to draw. Or the OTC capped licenses sell out fairly quick in a lot of units. I don’t want to hunt those units you posted. For most of the state how many bears are killed during archery season? Why do we have a cap on archery tags when success hovers around 5% or so?

Wrong.

Im quite familiar with the regs.
You wanted to hunt bear during September, you can do that.
You didnt say where you wanted to hunt bear.
I didnt have a bear PP and drew a tag this year for that hunt code.

Bottom line is anyone that WANTS to hunt bear, with a rifle, in September, can do it.
And if you read the proposals in the links above, the CPW is looking at creating MORE rifle seasons in September.

CPW is already concerned with having ML and archery hunters hunting at the same time, so they want to put even more rifle hunters out there at the same time as well. Ya, that makes perfect sense.

Making us dodge bullets is their answer to the growing number of bowhunters. Doesn’t hurt lithe bottom line as much as a limited draw would.

Back in 2008 I was archery elk hunting with a Montana Cow Elk decoy. I had a bull bugling and coming in about 100 yards out. Suddenly rifle shots started going off from above me and off to my right. Seven or eight shots in a row. I took cover and got the heck out of there. I went to town to report them, and that's when I found out there was a concurrent "cow elk rifle season" going on in that unit. Up to that point, that was the first I'd ever heard of a rifle elk hunt at the same time as archery. I haven't carried a decoy since.
