Best performing 10mm on medium to large game?

I have a Glock G40 with a 9" Lonewolf barrel in it. So far I have loaded 155 and 180 grain Hornady XTPs and a few Gold Dot hollow points in 180. Anyone have any experience with live game and this round? Deer, bear, hogs? The 155 gr hornady averages 1549 fps out of my gun.

I'm thinking as heavy as you can find, and not a hollow point. The 155 probably would not penetrate much on heavy game, but perfect for two legged varmints if not shooting through barriers. I understand you want to handload, but pushing max pressures in a handload, you might just as well try Buffalo Bore loaded ammo. It doesn't get any hotter than that.

Buffalo Bore is unreliable in their bullet selection. They will load one bullet for one lot then switch bullets for the next lot and continue that. In my experience they do not use premium bullets either. At one point on another forum between myself and 4 others we had positively identified 5 different bullets loaded in the 180 grain JHP factory load offered by Buffalo Bore. Their 220 grain hard cast is not an ideal bullet profile which is one of the most important features with hard cast bullets along with hardness. I will say they load fairly high loads velocity wise and they have been pretty accurate for me. I will not however buy any more of their ammunition given the unknown bullet you will receive knowing you are trusting that bullet to perform. When we found out how many different bullets were being loaded I then went down to sportsmans warehouse where the manager opened all the 10mm Buffalo Bore boxes on the shelf with me so we could see what bullets were loaded. I believe there were at least 3 different bullets in something like 5-6 boxes of ammo. This was in early 2013 when ammo was not staying on the shelves so these boxes were loaded recently at that time. Someone else may have a different experience but this is mine. Personally I would trust the 180 XTP or the 200 Nosler JHP.

A few factory loads you might consider
Federal 180 Trophy Bonded (I have chronographed this and it is close to box flap in my stock glock 20)
Underwood (make sure you are accurate and capable of handling HOT loads these have some snap)
Double Tap (they won't make their box flap velocity but they use good bullets perhaps the best hard cast design)

Thanks for the heads-up on the Buffalo Bore. I hadn't heard that, and personally have not bought any lately. If the Federal Trophy Bonded is available, a bonded bullet will work too.

HSM makes some good hard cast bullets for 10mm along with double tap if you can find any. And a Lone wolf or KKM barrel if you're shooting a glock. 1911 will be good to go with standard barrel.

I went back to stock barrel as the Lonewolf shot inconsistent groups. At 50 yards it might throw 2 out of 5 9" low and 3" left. Just not reliable. Velocities were awesome though.

The KKM barrel seems to shoot the Doubletap Hardcasts very well for me.

The 200 gr Doubletap hardcasts will go right through a 1 ft in diameter log. Doubletap also has a "controlled expansion jacketed hollowpoint" I think they call it for hunting, but I have never killed any logs with these to see what they can do for penetration.

The 200 gr doublet cast shoot good out of my stock barrel but the buffalo bore 220's seemed to be inconsistent and keyhole. Ive also shot quite a few boxes of cast out of the stock barrel with no ill consequences. There seems to be differing opinions on shooting cast out of the stock barrel, some guys who's opinions I value say its fine while others say no. If I were interested in in using my 10mm for hunting i would look to underwood ammo, as everything I've shoot from them was great and seemed hot.

Ever shoot their extreme penetrator rounds? Want to try some out in my .460 but theyre out of stock

I shoot the DT hardcast in my stock glock and haven't had any issues. About the most I shoot at a time is a full clip in 5 round bursts then I will either clean the barrel or shoot a few jacketed rounds inspect and go back to hardcast.

Can I ask what type of accuracy you're getting out of your G40? I have one and have tried quite a few combinations out of it....and I am not at all impressed with the accuracy.

And Hornady does make a 200 grain XTP in 10mm. I just bought and loaded some.
