As the title states been on a hiatus but now I’m back to planning a backpack hunt. I’ve used a steripen classic for a while. Is there something better out there that’s come out over the last few years?

I use a katadyn hike pro with a quick disconnect on my msr dromedary 4L in my pack. Filters great and I never have to pull my bladder out of my pack. I disconnect it and pour from the pack into a pot for boiling water.

I’ll second (third?) the hydrapak. Light and slim enough to wear in a soft bottle in running vest, can slam a whole liter through the filter straight from the bottle, then fill another bottle right afterwards.

We use cnoc bags and sawyer squeeze filters. Easy to fill, can squeeze through if you're in a hurry, or hang and gravity feed through it while setting up camp.

The Steripen ultra is rechargeable, and I carry a battery for my phone, my Garmin Mini and watch, so if I ever do need a charge.. Im covered already. All my trips using it, only 1 time i forgot to charge it before I headed out and on the second night it needed a quick charge.. no biggie. Never had any problems with it though, so easy and fast to use also.. right into the smartwater bottle, upside down and swirl 90 seconds.. Done!! I usually wrap my dirty water bottle with black duct tape.. thats the one I will fill, sterilize.. then pour it into my other smartwater bottle. I sometimes also tank up and drink.. leave my clean bottle filled and ready to drink, then just fill the dirty water bottle, cap it and hike on.. can always Steripen it later.
