Wait, what? The Cabelas here in Boise is much quicker. Having an enhanced ccw makes it even faster because they don't need to do a NICS call. Perhaps the long wait is a Nevada issue?Cabelas used to be an immediate and easy price match. That went down the drain along with any other reason to shop there a couple years ago. I still get points from my Cabelas Black card or I'd never go in there anymore. They gave me this same runaround as the OP the last time I was trying to burn some points. You should be able to get them to do the price match through customer service online, and they almost always have a free shipping promo of some kind.
I wanted to buy a rifle from the gun library, but I had an appointment, and I couldn't stand around for their 1.5 hour gun checkout process, so I came back afterwards. The gun library was all locked up, at 3:00 in the afternoon. I asked up front why, and they said that the gun library has different hours than the store, but those hours are not posted anywhere, so I guess you just have to keep trying?
Its sad what Cabelas has become.
I completely understand and agree that they’ve went down hill a bit, and I’m always willing for a good boycott on a company that is anti hunting or peta supporting etc… but boycotting a company that has put more money back into conservation and support of hunting and the outdoors than probably everyone on this website combined doesn’t make much sense to me.
The snail pace is the same in Billings, MT. Took 90 minutes to fill out paperwork for a pistol purchase. That’s the last firearm I’ll purchase there.Wait, what? I have a CCW, and the process could be quick, and is elsewhere, but Cabelas corporate process includes numerous checks and rechecks, it’s well documented that most people are spending over1.5 hours to get through buying a gun at Cabelas.Wait, what? That would make sense. I think there is a line between being thorough and being pedantic and wasting everyone's time.I have an acquaintance that works at Cabela’s. He used to work in the gun department. Their policy is to ding the employees pay check for even the smallest errors in paperwork. I’m sure that slows the process down.
Blame this on the political system and not cabelas. They’re just doing what they need to do in a system that can turn on them if it benefits the politiciansI have a CCW, and the process could be quick, and is elsewhere, but Cabelas corporate process includes numerous checks and rechecks, it’s well documented that most people are spending over1.5 hours to get through buying a gun at Cabelas.
I blame Cabelas, many other retailers have figured out the difficult regulatory environment.Blame this on the political system and not cabelas. They’re just doing what they need to do in a system that can turn on them if it benefits the politicians

Anything Johnny Morris buys is downgraded from where it was before the buyout. Cabelas, Ranger, and Triton are all examples of that. Used to like going into cabelas, but now it just another name for bass pro.

The Cabelas instinct line is still pretty good.I miss the Cabela's branded clothing and boots. The Redhead stuff is awful.
I have two old coats from the 2000-2010 era from Cabela’s and they are absolutely wonderful gear and I hope they last the rest of my days and every indication is that they will. Wore one yesterday. Dad and I used to be pretty faithful customers. They downturn was painfully obvious when we last visited a post-merger Cabelas. The Cabelas instinct line is still pretty good.

I agree. I have a pair of cabela’s boots from around 2015 before the buyout. They are still going strong. Father in law bought some redhead boots and they only lasted a couple yearsI miss the Cabela's branded clothing and boots. The Redhead stuff is awful.
Nothing is as good as it was when they were just Cabelas! Their clothes are imported junk, they don't stock much in the stores for reloaders (my experience) and their customer service sucks. They used to have a lot of older people working at the stores that knew what they were talking about, not now. The Cabela family got rich, but didn't do any of their customers any favors when BassPro waved $$$$ at them. But the Bass Pro veteran discount is nowhere as good as the old cabells veteran discount
Not just this but wouldn't let me touch the gun I ordered. Once the ridiculous purchase procedure was over the inspection showed an action that felt like 80 grit sandpaper.
"No firearm returns."
I just drive by now on our trips which are numerous but stopped a couple of summers ago because I needed a stringer and they have an easy parking lot to navigate. No stringers. Seriously. Cabelas didn't have any stringers. Plenty of sunglasses and toys though.
It's a damn shame.
