My wife is due with our fist child in March. I said something about turkey season and she looked at me and said there's no way I was turkey hunting this year. She couldn't believe the fact that I was wanted to take one day and turkey hunt and leave her to take care of our one month old.
Am I out of line? Maybe ill feel different after the baby is here?

No, your not out of line, however facts dont matter in this situation. You may not be dealing with a rational individual.
Play it by ear. See how it goes. NEVER make demands.

It's just emotions and it will be different when the baby arrives. On that note, I would never let a women tell me I couldn't go hunting. I went fishing the morning after my first son was born (it was the opener). For as hard as I work for my family, she knows not even to mention it to prevent an argument. Obviously I know when i need to be there for them and wouldn't put hunting first if they ever needed me but in reality I need hunting. It is my only escape from everything. If that got taken away by a women, I would boot her a$$. Lol. Good luck my man. Bring her some flowers and whatever food she is craving and tell her what day(s) you plan to hunt.

I need to figure out where you all get these one month olds that just sleep and eat all the time. Maybe number 4 will do that but 1, 2, and 3 sure didn't.

Is a turkey hunt worth more than your family? I do agree with a lot of the folks that by a month old everyone's perspective will be different.

The best advice was to not take advice here.

With that in mind, as many have said I'd wait it out. Her perspective may change and your perspective may change. No point in creating an issue today where none may exist in the future.

If the time comes and it is important to her that you be there, stick around. It's only one turkey season. You have the rest of your life, no turkey alive is worth jeopardizing your marriage.

We just had a child and my wife isn't going back to work - at least for the next year or so. Part of that deal was unlimited hunting for me. She had no problem with it in negotiations, but let's see what happens come fall.

Congrats and remember, being a mom is the hardest job in the world.

Stay home and sort your turkey gear. Or go turkey hunting and get ready for child support payments?

Not going to tell you what you should do but I would be turkey hunting. Guys go to work every day while mothers stay home with their kids so what's the difference. We didn't have all this "maternity" leave for fathers when I was having kids. Glad I'm not in your situation, I might just leave and go for joint custody and hunt during the time the kid was with mom.

I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old. It took me a bit of time after my first was born to adjust, but I would say "yes" you're life will be different for at least a year or two at a minimum. My second's birthday is on elk opening weekend, so I get to deal with this forever.

If your wife is like mine, I would suggest expecting to not go out much. Your life will be different for the first year. It will be ok. It will all pay off later down the road. If she isn't, good on you and enjoy yourself.

I have several hunting buddies who don't have kids who give me advice similar to others on this. They just don't understand the dynamic of my family and its ok. They just don't know/understand.

I spent the time not going out and spending money to refine my gear, increase my field skills and knowledge (youtube and books), etc.

Pregnant woman's brains are not in a normal state. If yours is like mine, I would suggest not discussing this sort of thing. It will only stress her out and make her freak out. Sometimes you have to just suck it up.

Like others. Yes you are out of line right now. Come turkey season, no your not out of like. Pregancy can turn a loving, logical, beautiful person into a train wreck and I have seen it change a person permanently. At this point doesn't matter you already done knocked her up. Now you just need to see how it plays out.

Thanks for the advise. I was really asking for relationship advise more so just getting a general consensus from like minded people.
I think yall are right. Im.just going to leave it alone and see how things turn up come season. Who knows once I get to hold the little bundle of joy I might not mind missing a season.

Never underestimate the love and adoration you'll have for your child, especially the first. The only time I'd put my first down was going to work or sleep. I just couldn't get enough of her. She's 23 now, crazy how fast time goes by.

Ain't it !?! My oldest is 28 now and I can still remember how I felt the first time I held her.
