All things .308 Win

Just wondering if you think you would get those MV with 16.5” barrels? I saw the 308 load is a nosler boxed ammo. I just assumed their MV was from a 22-24” test barrel. So 2850-2950 rough estimate for the 308 load? Will that get you to 400 yards at a proper impact velocity?

I haven’t done any further research into other ammo or load data, so it’s a real question.

Following up on this, I got the rifle. It’s shooting the 125s at 2850 fps, 1.5” group at 200 yds. I’m surprised at how accurate the 16.5” 1:10 combo is.

Shot this sow this evening at 260 yards with a 168gr TMK launched at about 2700 fps. She was quartering away and I hit he where you see the muddy spot on her side and the bullet exited just behind the opposite shoulder. Exit wound was not large. At the shot, she dropped in her tracks, was down for a couple of seconds, then was up running. She ran in a large circle and went down almost where she was when I shot her. A mature sow, but not huge. Maybe 120 pounds? I didn’t feel like opening her up for an autopsy. Might shoot a coyote off her in a day or so.

What shooting sticks are those?

1k box’s that have been split up. Pretty cheap.

Raven Rocks is GTG.
I ordered and received 500 of the 168s. I didn’t recognize from the description at the time I ordered, that these are not TMKs. These are a tipped version of the SMK, with a much lower BC than the TMK. TMK on the left and Tipped SMK on the right.

Looks like the bullet that is loaded in the factory federal t308t tactical tru.

It should be what was the Federal exclusive version of the TMK loaded in the Tru ammo line. It is a TMK. But one that has a an almost identical ogive to the 168gr SMK- very easy to get shooting. Phenomenal bullet.

Interesting. I have 1k of the 175's in the mail right now myself.

I apologize if my post was misleading.

What I read led me to believe that these were the normal TMK’s.
I didn’t realize that here was a different version of a TMK. I thought three was just the one.

Once aging, to @Hondo64d and anyone else who ordered, my apologies.

I don't think you need to apologize, I would have thought the same thing as you and still did until Hondo pointed it out.

Im still gonna order 500 and shoot them up.

They’re better than the normal 168gr TMK- the commercial 168’s can be a bit picky/finicky. This Federal version is not. They are great.

So what is the G7 for that 'Tipped SMK'?

We have had the same experience the t308t shoot phenomenal out of our work guns and great out everyone’s personal rifles. It really just seems like every rifle likes them.

From above, it sounds like this is the bullet loaded in Federal Tru ammo, this site lists the G1 at 0.48 (vs the regular 168 SMK at 0.462). I didn't find anywhere that listed the G7, but you may find it searching Federal Tru loaded ammo.

If a guy wanted to use these for hunting and only wanted to buy one weight, is it preferable to go with the 168 or 175? In my case, I have a 308 20" Tikka CTR (1:10) and a 308 20" Mauser M12 (1:11). I'll be shooting often at 4500-5000' and hunting 8000-11000'. Unfortunately, I haven't wrung out these rifles to see if there is a preference.
