This week CPW Commission appointments will go before the Colorado State Senate for confirmation. Confirmation hearing before the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources committee on April 22 and will likely go to a vote on the Senate floor on April 24. If you have been following the turmoil with the commission and recent vote to accept a fur ban petition against the recommendation of the agency, now is the time to make change. Push back against these appointments.

From the Colorado Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee today:

Frances Silva-Blayney- favorable recommendation to the Senate for appointment to the CPW Commission. Vote 7-0

John Emerick- DID NOT receive favorable recommendation to the Senate for appointment to the CPW Commission. Vote 2-5

Chris Sichko- DID NOT receive favorable recommendation to the Senate for appointment to the CPW Commission. Vote 3-4

Keep the pedal on the gas call and/or email those Senators. Expect a full Senate vote on all three commissioners on Friday, April 24.

Sportsmen’s Day at the Capitol tomorrow, good opportunity to engage with Senators on this issue.

Too bad, so sad.

Emerick and Sichko both resigned on Friday. Likely because they did not have the votes for confirmation and to save the Governor from embarrassment.

If you are so inclined, please reach out and thank Senator Dylan Roberts and your own Senator. He is going to get a lot of flack for this from the anti-hunting groups: CatsArentTrophies flunkies, ColoradoWild, Sierra Club, Prairie Protection Colorado, Center for Biological Diversity, Science for Colorado Wildlife, etc.

Here is an example. Hit job from the antis trying to masquerade as a “backcountry” advocacy group. Clearly trying to capitalize on the respect and brand name recognition of BHA.

Dylan Roberts says he’s defending mainstream Colorado. This hearing made him look like the one out of step.

Thank him for properly exercising the statutory role of the legislature as elected representatives of the people by providing oversight of the state executive branch. Board and commission appointments should receive scrutiny from the Senate as they make numerous decisions that affect the daily lives of everyday Coloradans.

Unfortunately, too often the Senate does not.
