Ab raptor 6

Went to shop today to look for a raptor 8. They didn't have one in stock but they did have a 6 w/3" reflex. They said they'd let it go for 620$ if i wanted it. My only other can is a scyth ti, which I'm happy with. Just wondered if sound wise the ab 6 would be as quiet as the scythe. The shop is closed until monday so i could go buy it then. Almost just bought it today wanted to research it a bit first. Thanks!

I have a raptor 6 and it is my main hunting can without the reflex. They're really great cans. For that price, you should go get it.

I have a raptor eight. I’d originally ordered a six, but I got talked out of it people who had already shot each one. I got it with a 5 inch reflex. When I’m at the range I shoot with the reflex, when I’m out hunting I shoot it flush. I’m very pleased with both configurations and I don’t think I would want to trade a shorter can for less baffles. Therefore, I am pleased with my eight instead of the six.

With that said, that price sounds like a steal, and you should seriously consider just pulling the trigger and getting it

I think you need to realize if you really wanted the performance of the 8 you will be disappointed but if it’s another can in the quiver and you’re okay with what it is then it’s a good deal. An 8 direct mounted is lighter and as quite as the 6 with a 3” reflex.

This is why I went with the 8. The baseline performance of the 8 is great. With the 5” reflex it makes me giggle.

Yep the 10 is best, 8 is a reasonable compromise, 6 starts giving up too much performance for the length/weight saved. In my opinion.

The a-10 is a 7 and I am impressed with it. I would probably get the six and then send in the 3” reflex and swap it for a 5. Would cost another 50, but would make it nicer on the range. Note they have to be unfired to swap.

My AB8 is coming with the 3" bull barrel reflex. I have no intention of shooting carbon barrels, or any other bull barrel for that matter. Is it worth swapping for the 3" sporter barrel reflex? Will I be able to tell any difference?

Sporter reflex won't fit over some barrel flares/adapters.

This is correct. If you’re going to go with the sporter reflex, you should order the thread adapter from AB as well. It will fit inside the sporter.

I have a bull 3" and a standard 3" and both on the 6 and 8 from shooter's ear I would have to be shooting them back to back, side by side on the same gun to tell the difference. Put them on different rifles, or just take one shot without having the other to compare to and no way I'd be able to tell which was which.

From a little ways away (like a spotter a few feet behind the shooter) the difference is a tiny bit more noticeable, but still pretty subtle.

It might be placebo, but the difference seems more apparent on a larger cartridge than a smaller one. Entirely possible that my monkey brain thinks the difference in volume should be more noticeable with more powder and that makes it seem to me like it's real.

Clearly an 8 or 10 will be quieter, but is the ab 6 WITHOUT the reflex “hearing safe”? What about with the reflex?
