6.5 Creedmoor/260 for Deer, Elk, and whatever else.....

6.5 prc. 156 grain Berger 2930 at the muzzle. About a 50 yard shot. Hard quartering away. Oryx was down in 20 yards or less. Did gutless and was in a hurry so didn’t look at the insides. There was little blood on arm pit of opposite side so believe some fragments came out. Both insides of front shoulders had blood shot. I Was impressed with the bullet.
Well done! Can you please share the details of your rifle and load? 2930 MV with the 156 is scootin'!

Bought a Kimber Hunter 6.5 CM that is destined to be a 6 or 22, but my plan is to hunt with the 6.5 for a year and make sure the UL rifle works out. Planning to try the 145 MB first, below is a pic of one sectioned. Looks like plenty of cavity in the front of the bullet.

There's something about 6.5 Kimbers, they seem to always shoot lights out.

You might not want to swap the barrel after your first range trip...just sayin'

My Montana is a legitimate 1.25" 10 shot gun, with the first 3 always cloverleafing. My buddy's Hunter does the same thing. It's just insane really!

I haven't shot any big game with them. But they accounted for a badger at 659 yards and a coyote at 811 yards out of my 260 AI.

Don't have the time to read 76 pages, wish I did. If I'm repeating what's already been said somewhere in those pages...sorry.

My 7 decades of hunting and a library of reading has confirmed what Bob Hagel said...... “You should not use a cartridge that does the job when everything goes right; you need one that works when everything goes wrong.”

Amen Mr. Hagel, Amen.

YMMV.

No time to read = no time to learn. But plenty of time to post meaningless platitudes.

Hagel also wrote of shooting a small bull moose several times with the short lived Colt reproduction Sharps Borchardt rifle because the Speer bullets he was using were disintegrating and failing to penetrate. Cartridge that rifle was chambered for? .375.

Cartridge has next to nothing to do with it. Use good bullets and put them in the right place. To do otherwise in any way, be it chambering, projectile, or part of anatomy they hit will result in a rodeo.

For what it's worth, you don't have to read it. Just look at the pictures.

Alright, let me pull out my 25mm bushmaster from the safe, she is a tad heavy for mountain hunting but man she does a heckuva job no matter where you hit, slight over penetration with the DU rounds though…

It’s me, the buddy. Can confirm: I have a Kimber hunter proO2 they use to sell at cabelas in 6.5 creed. Thing shoots lights out with 143ELDXs for the first 3 rounds, starts walking a bit after that. I’ve been fortunate enough to take a handful of critters with it, furthest big game being a good bear at 380yds.
That rifle I’ll always be my favorite to take for a walk, excited for you to get some memories under yours!

The difference in effective range between many of the outdated yet still effective belted magnums and the 6.5 creedmoor is pretty much negligible... it is both sad and frustrating that the firearm community is largely so uneducated yet speaks as if experts with such conviction. I see people at the range giving terrible advice to newer shooters all the time. Advice like the above. "I read a book one time." "I was in the army." Anytime anyone appeals to authority they are likely full of shit morons and probably read a quote not a whole book. People who read whole books don't fart out of their mouths like that.

Interesting replies....a bit of respect and decades of field experience / results conspicuously absent. Take a moment and be thankful we all have choices which can be freely expressed.

Have a good day ya'll.

What about other people's experiences other than yours?

Hope you have a good day and hope you take the time to read this thread which is full of real expiriences.

My son got a M7 260 last fall for his 9th birthday.

He made one shot kills on a big doe whitetail during the early youth season and a middling sized pig a week later. Both with factory loaded 130ELDMs and both at around 80-100 yards. Lung soup in both cases and not much tracking necessary, the doe went about 15 yards and the pig straight down.

He wanted to load his own ammo so I bought him some dies and a box of 129gr mystery bullets off the Midway 2nds list. We formed some brass from 308 and were soon in business. He put one of them through the shoulders of a big cow elk from 250 yards and she staggered 2 steps before collapsing. Bullet went through both shoulders and both lungs in between and was caught against the hide.

Pretty good season for a scrawny 9yr old. 😁

Elk lungs

Recovered bullet and ivories.
