For the 22 Creed specifically, I am working on my 3rd Tikka setup and I have 3 extra barrels for when the first one goes. My factory Tikka 8 twist stainless barrel "should go" any day now as it's just past 1,500 rounds as of this morning; we'll see... This allows me to always have a 22 Creed up and running when one is down for a new barrel or an optic breaking or whatever else.
I'm not seeing anywhere in the future where a 22 Creedmoor isn't "always" in the truck or jeep along with the .223 and .308 and really, I don't "need" any of my 6mms anymore because of that cartridge.
I have an open invitation for anyone to message me and come shoot I've learned a TON from this site and from folks who have come out for shooting days over the years.Incredible numbers. You shot more last year than half or Rokslide will in their entire lifetime.

I do. I own a self sufficient dirt work business that I started myself, and I also have my "day job" which is work from home and has flexible hours with unlimited vacation time. One of the benefits of starting young and sticking with a company for 20 years and being loyal (things the next generation doesn't seem to grasp). I could be making a hell of a lot more money at my "day job" if I bounced around companies but then life wouldn't be as good.Do you work? Lol
I’m wondering why you’d need to go with long action tikka Mags for a 22-250? My 88s jumping .20k in my Tikka are at 2.67”…Trying to piggy back on this thread if that is ok. I'm trying to do the same thing but my situation is different as I reload. Background is I have access to 1000 yard range, I shoot prairie dogs out to 600 yards for practice and I reload. Even my 6.5 creed struggles at 600 because a pdog at 600 is probably 0.5 moa or less. Thing is 6.5 cm uses more powder and bullets are a lot more expensive. I also reload everything I shoot. I also have a pile of Tikka that's overtime get prefits and I have one waiting however, I do not have a 223 bolt. I did the math and comparing high bc 22 and 6.5 bullets and powder volume I'll be saving $250 for every 1000 rounds. Considering I will likely shoot that every year maybe more.
22 creed:
Pros:
- designed for high bc bullets
- high quality brass
- uses standard bolt
- long range performance
- have the headspace gauge
Cons:
- barrel burner
- uses lots of powder
- I would try to find nodes at minimum to extend barrel life (I don't want to shoot out a barrel every year)
22-250
Pros:
- uses standard bolt
- could use with long action Tikka mags (I think)
- could get decent barrel life
Cons:
- brass availability is terrible
- I do not have a headspace gauge
223 rem
Pros:
- barrel life
- I've had great luck with LC brass and I have piles of it
- cheapest option
- If I can get 2700 fps I can get out to 1000 yards pretty easily
- I have a headspace gauge
Cons:
- 223 bolt need that
- Tikka magazine not long enough, need aftermarket
- 223 is not setup for high bc bullets need custom freebore (not a big deal just an extra step)
In summary, 223 has the highest upfront cost but it's a great long term gun for me. I will also shoot it more and extend the life of my other barrels. Any thoughts. I am struggling with the damn 223 bolt it's like $423 after shipping I can almost buy a barrel for that lol! A lot of other guns the bolt heads are like $150...
A 223 tikka with either aftermarket magazines or get a ctr take off and bottom metal(buy ctr 223 magazine) would have you off to the races with 75’s. I went the ctr take off route because I like them but if you don’t swapping bottom metal or like said different mag would fix you up.Trying to piggy back on this thread if that is ok. Excellent! I’ve just done similar with a CVA Cascade in .223 on the way. Probably will only use factory ammo but I am a hand loader so I may not be able to resist hand loads for long on the .223.Appreciate all the responses. Tikka 223 is on the way!
Mind blown.

It performs as well as my .243s and 6 CM down range. I still love to shoot both those cartridges though.Would you please explain that a little more? I assume you are saying your 22CM out preforms all you 6mm?
I rotate which guns get shot and depends on the application a little bit. Whether it’s training with old professional shooting buddies, or dedicated varmint and predator killing days, long range practice, high wind practice, zero check days, teaching days, etc.Obviously you love to shoot but why are you shootings so many different cartridges?
Most of what is shoot these days is factory or ammo loaded up by my father in law or friends I pay to do it. I don’t have the time or patience to reload anymore. For all the time spent reloading I could be out shooting.Clearly you aren’t concerned about efficiency, I can’t imagine your reloading bench/ room.
