Unicorn rifle scope - it can’t be just me…

After hearing about the scope drop test, I have to admit I skeptically drank the koolaid. I started by not believing (mainly on the scopes), then I thought back to how often I re-zeroed my rifle systems. I then tested my scopes. They all failed miserably minus the Nightforce and a Trijicon credo I had, then I fully bought in.

Since seeing it first hand it is not worth risking an opportunity so I have replaced most of my scopes, but I feel like there is still a gap in quality available optics in one small niche. I want a unicorn scope- holds zero at least as well as the Trijicon credo, 11-14 oz like a leupold vx3 with a cds that can dial, Mil reticle, and usable turrets that can get a 6.5cm out to 5-600.

Trijicon is so close with the credo but the capped turrets are a pain in the field and I don’t trust them not to unlock in the field.

Swfa UL is sweet too but not mil based reticle or turrets and it’s capped. The 3-9 is great but it’s still heavier than I would prefer for the specific use case I have in mind.

Does anyone else have this same thought? Is there any optics manufacturing company that’s wants to put out a scope like this?

Now accept the fact that what you want is going to weigh around 20 Oz or more and buy the SWFA.

That scope exists but not at 11-14 oz.

You are not alone. It comes up here about every other month. So far there are a few good 19-20oz options, nothing else.

It doesnt have to be ffp if its in that 3-9 range (more than that I would prefer it) does a scope like that interest anyone else? The half pound ish weight savings is nice for a dedicated UL rifle build.

Lightweight
Reliable dialing, including return to zero
Robust
High quality glass.


You can only have three, at most.

Typically only two, for most manufacturers.

Reliability and durability come at a cost and that cost is weight. Light weight and robust don't seam to go hand in hand.

There is no free lunch. Aluminum tubes and glass weigh certain amounts. Robust internals vs plastic ones also weigh certain amounts.

Don’t know if it has been “drop test approved” but the 3-9 trijicon accupoint is 13ish oz if i remember correctly.

It has capped turrets, but you can get a BDC retical for drops.

The Accupoint 3-9 is a good lightweight scope for set and forget use. You can get it with a mil-dot reticle for some wind and drop holds, but it has MOA turrets. Would be awesome to see Trijicon update that scope with dialable mil turrets, but monkeys might fly out of my butt before that happens. The Accupoint line seams pretty dead on the vine as far as new development is concerned.

The accupoint seems interesting to me, the credo mil square is cool too. But for the weight I like the accupoint. I have used holds for hunting but it’s much more efficient to dial and hold. Can’t have your cake and eat it too but I wish we could.
