223 to 22 creed

Considering having my gunsmith punch out my tikka 223 to either a 22 creed or 22-250. It’s a factory 1:8 16 inch barrel so I’ll pick up quite a bit of speed and I figure it’ll be easy enough to find someone to trade me bolts.

Has anyone done this? I’ve seen 22-250 to 22 creed but not 223 to either of them.

You'd need a new bolt, bolt faces are different between 223 and 22CM. 22-250 and 22CM both use a standard ~.480 bolt face.

Yes, it’s no different than reaming out a 22-250 because the 22creed case is larger than both. It will work without issue.

If you don't reload, you'll be stuck with 50-55gr varmint bullets for 22-250.

The 22-250 brass does stretch a bit upon firing too.

I got a 22-250, chose not to rechamber it and I'm halfway thru a barrel and will put a 22 creedmoor barrel on it soon.

I don’t have any experience with it. But my gun smith prefers not to ream out 22-250 to a creedmoor. Prefer a new barrel to start

I know I’m in the minority on Rokslide. But if I’m spending the money for a chamber job it’s going to be on a better blank. That’s not to say I havnt had phenomenal tikka factory barrels, but overall I have seen a lot better from other makers.

I did a tikka 8 twist 22-250 to a 22 creed. I have no regrets.

I got drunk and left unsupervised with access to gunbroker and ordered a 1/9 22 creed barrel for my savage that someone reamed out of a heavy 223 barrel. Shoots great and the 125 dollar price was awesome but I wouldn't have been surprised if it had been the complete opposite either. If I were doing it again I'd start with a fresh blank and have a smith ream it or roll the dice on a prefit.

I wouldn’t give up a .223 for the 22CM unless you already have another .223.

Giving up a daily driver for sports car you might hesitate to take out of the garage.
