.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

New to the forum. Stumbled on this thread just researching 223 rounds. Not a hunter, only been hunting once and did not get a chance to kill a deer and it was still one of the best times of my life. Needless to say I started reading the thread and was instantly hooked. Close to the 300 page mark. Anyway I wanted to contribute some data for those looking for a very low cost round that punches way above its weight. Might be good for practice and some game (again I am not a hunter so I would not know what this round does first hand). I picked it up at 45 cents per round and I think it is currently 48. Seems to be the same as the USA RED or the old purple LE training rounds. Thank you to the OP and subsequently all of the contributors. Outstanding thread that is a wealth of knowledge.

20" FN cold hammer forged chrome lined 1:7, enhanced polished mil spec trigger, viper pst gen 2 2-10. Other ammo groups for reference from the same gun.

What causes this ring on the end of my 77 and 69gr TMKs? using hornady dies. They seem to shoot fine but more worried they wont expand on an animal. Ran into this issue when working up a new load using some XBR8208. TIA

Has the one on the left been loaded and pulled? Seems to me like the seating stem is probably the culprit but I could be wrong

Yes pulled. 25gr of Varget was too hot so i had a few i didnt shoot. Right is a brand new unseated bullet.
Besides the seating stem and full case of powder, your neck tension could be too high due to an undersized button for sizing the neck inside diameter. Just something to keep in mind if you still run into the same issue after changing your powder charge.

I posted this elsewhere but it belongs here.
77 TMK 223 AI
Bull 260 yds
Cow 510 yds.

Very impressive. Thanks for sharing.

How fast were the 77 TMKs coming out from your AI. How long is your barrel?

Trying to ascertain what I could expect to gain if I were to chase my current 26 inch bolt gun with AI. With 25 grains of N540 on virgin arsenal primed WCC 5.56 brass, the 77s average 2914 suppressed.

TIA
