2026 Cold Bore Challenge Q&A Thread

Took my second shot today and I adjusted .5 moa down and I hit. I need to do some more verification but if that’s the case in my Hornady app do I adjust my velocity up to get more accurate adjustments? I followed up with 5 more hits so I am presuming i was adjusting wrong.
Yes
That what I do.
Once I’m getting good hits at distance.
I adjust the fps to the solver I’m using matches up.

But make sure you are getting an excellent range.
And all other inputs are perfect.

Maybe even a big sheet of plywood, cardboard etc behind it to ensure a good range.

If any other inputs are bad, you will be adjusting your entire curve bad if that makes sense.

I got both of my shots in. (Post #59)
Missed both times. I tried going for shots that I'm not as practiced with and it definitely shows.
I also suck at reading wind speed haha.

But I sent a second shot right after my miss on day 2 and got a hit. It made me feel a little better, but I still suck at shooting hahaha.

Got lucky with a good hit on my 3rd shot at 886 yards this evening.

Unfortunately the video cut out before the shot…

102 degrees, in direct sunlight, and stuck in a black hot phoneskope case is a recipe for failure. It’s happened multiple times when filming shooting stuff here in AZ before so I should have known.

I’ll still try and shoot a 4th shot when I get back from work travel next weekend even if my double entries are no good since 3rd shot wasn’t on film.

Made my 2nd shot, so a 50% hit rate. Needs improvement but at least I have an idea what to work on. Dry firing prone off the pack, I noticed my trigger pull moves the reticle just a little to the right. Need to work on pulling straight back and controlling the recoil better.

Thanks again to everyone for putting this on.

Nice shooting.

How did you set up your backpack as a rear rest in your shot 2?

I'm struggling. Missed a 3rd time trying to make a sandwich.

My third attempt at 600 in seated supported isn't in my post obviously but I thought it was blowing right to left 6MPH full value and held .6 right with 112 MB at 2760fps. I dialed 3.8 this time and expected to hit high if anything. Shot 3 is the lowest and rightest one. I did a zero check just now and hit hit hit, so the low misses at distance are on me or mirage.

Same setup as how I killed this coues deer across a canyon at 543 yards. Long legs Spartan snaps in in seconds and then bear hug pack.

Cold bore shot was a bit more even terrain and not as rushed to get the shot off before the deer crossed the saddle and over the other side. So would be less “hunched” and better form as I had time to adjust everything just so for the cbc shot.

Thank you.

I'll try that tomorrow with my sticks and make sure the bottom of the pack is on the ground and between my legs and not just floating between my legs and arms and off to the side.

I'll probably shoot in the mornings to take wind out of the equation until I have a base line.

Yep pack on ground and then depending on terrain and shot angle I have the bag facing towards or away from me.

I always have a Molinator and light weight rear bag of some kind strapped loosely to the outside of the pack for shots that need more height on top of the bag or frame.

I always recommend guys go up a size in frame length if they are between two sizes because you gain more versatility out of using the pack standing up as a seated or kneeling rest.

The ability to quickly adjust the height of the front sticks might negate that need for many but I don’t use them enough personally to say. My Spartan is preset to my seated height on relatively flat ground then I just adjust the pack as needed based on terrain, shot angle, etc. Adjusting the Spartan legs works but is clunky when trying to keep eyes on a camouflaged animal at distance and getting set up for a shot.

Especially when it’s a damn coues that’s no bigger than a Great Dane and once you take your eyes off them they disappear into the mountain haha.
