Bitter sweet year this year. It's the first year I have seen my wirehair really slow down. She will be 9 next week. Still will find birds like a champ and has had some incredible pinned birds on heavy pressured grouse in WI but needs her recovery time. I felt pretty guilty leaving for 11 days early October to hunt moose and not hunt her but she has still done good.

Struck out last week in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan for Sharpies…Got real worried that this is finally the end of hunting for my 13 year old GSP.

Turns out he just needed to get in game shape. Ran him twice this weekend. Took one wild rooster, which is a rarity around here. Dog work was solid, even though he is comically slow at times. Old dog is all heart…really appreciated how hard he worked for me.

Love it, how was the track, yds, conditions, was it dead at the scene
It was a shorter and easier track than I expected, not a lot of blood but a couple little squirts when going over blow down. I didn't see the arrow hit but it sounded wrong. Arrow had a mix of blood and bile I was thinking it was a liver hit, so I waited a few hours before getting her out to track. Ended up being about 125 yards in timber, sunny, 50 degrees right around lunchtime. Deer was dead. Deer was more angled than I thought, single lung, front of stomach exit. Probably 2 minutes from putting her on to the track until we were sitting at the deer with half of that time just trying to manage her long lead.
