Didn’t have anything happening this after noon so we went for a little walk. Me and a buddy got out 6 roosters. Banks sure likes pheasant hunting run around and smell birds and scare them up.

Great several days in SD; my dog is still in her prime and was a workhorse. And she has a soft mouth, as you can see.

Yes. I generally work them for the entire season with one. I have just about got her broke and don't use it much other than for retrieving now.

My little guy got his first bird this weekend!!
Drove all the way up to S Dakota from TX just to put him on some pheasants. First time for both of us. Public land. Wound up with 4 for the weekend.

Second season for her and chukar have been her nemesis. She has been getting too close and busting the coveys. She finally figured it out today and held some great points in wind from all directions.

Complete successful hunt. Any time I can spend hunting over a good dog is time well spent.

Bitter sweet year this year. It's the first year I have seen my wirehair really slow down. She will be 9 next week. Still will find birds like a champ and has had some incredible pinned birds on heavy pressured grouse in WI but needs her recovery time. I felt pretty guilty leaving for 11 days early October to hunt moose and not hunt her but she has still done good.
