Watched my older dog pull off an absolute mind boggling retrieve today. All of 300 yards down hill and he didn’t actually see the bird hit the deck. He just saw it sailing and falling. He just expanded his search on a line and after 4-5 minutes came back with it, broken wing and very much alive.

I had a very similar situation. I dropped a chuckar and he went way down hill, my GSP took off after it without really seeing where it went down. All the sudden he tried to stop on point, but his momentum made him take tumble down hill, when he got up he was on point, Without knowing where my bird had dropped. He thought he had picked up the scent of more birds, but it was the one I downed. Man I miss that dog. I miss all seven of my GSP's.

I know you boys that live in wild bird country don't think much of it. But from the south we having a hell of a time 99 flushes with a day to go and a dozen birds on the ground. Birds shot over all dogs by multiple people.

This been a trip of a life time. Can't wait to get back up here next year with some dogs that have had some more birds under them and really get after these birds

You should be in for an awesome hunt. Bird numbers seemed great and you’ll have some cooler weather with your timing. Opening 3 days were downright hot. Good luck!

Same. I’ve never been to SD. Never hunted pheasant. Never hunted with a dog. Going to be a lot of firsts!!

Young dog is out this weekend with an injury, so I took the old guy out alone and had a very successful walk.

We got the mallards pretty good. Trying to get better with my big camera . Which pic do you think is better photo quality wise.

Black dog pointed 4 roosters today. Brown dog accounted for a couple quail.
They were not a fan of posing for this one and wanted the birds.
Pheasant opener with friends. One nice point and a couple recoveries from black dog.
Black dogs first duck retrieve on a wigeon.60-70 yards on a jump shot bird due to momentum and wind chop. Circled it 3 times before bringing it back because he wasn't sure what it was.

Just finished up an upland roadtrip. My old dog is showing his age but the pup had a real breakout afternoon hunt in ND. She went on a terror, pointing 2 roosters and 6 different hens. Tracking some for 100-200 yards before locking up. Definitely a highlight of the trip.
