Bumping it up to 70 this year since I've been shooting way more than last year. I did 50 last year. I will likely keep my hunting max at 50 since I've still never shot an animal with my bow and honestly I don't know how I will react at full draw when the pressure is on.

My target is a 14" block which is big enough for an elk's vitals but I am trying to keep it in the square the 4 smaller dots make. Approximately a 10" square. Fresh side so I can see my group at the end.

Same setup as last year other than the new stab which I won't be extending for this since I probably won't be doing that in the field.

Axius Ultra 29.5" DL a little under 70 lbs.
Hamskea Trinity rest
Tight spot
BG Mountain lite (I think) I put on a dovetail
Nose button
Easton Axis match 300 spine, total arrow weight is about 535 grains
4 fletch Heat vanes
50 grain brass insert
Iron Will titanium collar
125 grain Vented Iron Will broad head

Check out the new targets a bunch of us have made this year getting archery back up and running here in Mission BC. They are 4'x4' and we have targets set from 10-70. The 3D course is in the woods behind. Here's the view of the one I'm shooting at;

F0B306E2-9E58-403A-AB95-4E4F44ADBC27.jpeg

Day 1; A bit of rain, not much wind and my shot felt great.

15426481-BB77-4434-8A2E-6BC0BA8B1C4A.jpeg

Day 2; A bit of rain again, shot felt good and I’m just inside the 4 black dots.
BC827D82-5FF3-4BCD-AEC3-15BDC081F88B.jpeg

Day 3; Pretty calm day and the shot felt good. Looks like I might need to dial an extra yard or so to make up for the added drag of the broad head. I had a brain fart and pulled my arrow before a pic. Hopefully the clean target face keeps me in it but I’ll ask in the Q&A thread.

B394C668-DC3A-446F-B6B3-F5904BA47A84.jpeg

Day 4; Felt pretty good, not much for wind. Hit a bit higher than the first 3. 602B54B4-31A2-4B1B-B0EA-167FD841BCC9.jpeg

Day 5; Didn’t make it 5 for 5. Missed a bit high. Again not much for weather but I was in a rush. Finished off 4/5 shooting 20 yards farther than what I think my MER is right now. At least I didn’t cut the handle lol. Thanks for doing this!

First CBC with the recurve. Shooting covid free this year lol.

Recurve
Goal is to be in the blue area at just over 15 yards. It's been about a month since I've had to chase an arrow beyond the target which is sadly exciting for me... Attending a shooting clinic with Tom Clum next weekend so I'll be done w/ my 5 shots by then.

21" Hoyt Satori - 30lb Long Trade Tech Limbs - Drawing 29.5" w/ a clicker. 700 Spine gold tip warrior arrows w/ feathers. 100gr VPA 3 blade broadhead. Eichler 3 under tab.
OHvkchkl.jpg

Day 1 - Rainy and windy. Shooting more or less straight into the wind though. Brought my target out of the garage and then got setup, stepped out and shot, and pulled the arrow as quick as I could!
lEuBYgIl.jpg

Compound
After going 1/5 and 2/5 the previous 2 years at about 50 I'm shooting 41 yards this year. Bow is an EVL 34 EC that I put the 70lb limbs from my NTN on. Right now shooting ~62lbs at 30.5" DL. Arrows are the same as last year. 300 spine easton axis, 50gr Brass HIT, 10gr IW collar, wrap w/ 4 fletch AAE Max, nockturnal nock, and a Rage hypodermic NC that I'm playing around with up front. MBG 3 pin and quivalizer are the same from last year. Target is to be in the red. Will shoot either with a nock 2 it or silverback for the challenge.
I may need to find a new target face for the next few days.
iCnSrsel.jpg

Day 1
Warm(ish) and steady breeze right to left. Not raining which was nice. First shot felt good and was good. Actually hit just under the yellow center.
8b0mhQ7l.jpg

Day 2 - 5/1/22 - Windy L to R. No rain. Recurve shot was fine, compound I drew and then held a while waiting for the wind. I shoulda let down and drew again.
tSH7ovcl.jpg

Day 3
Just out on both :( Compound shot felt good though. Will bump the sight down a bit tomorrow I think. Cool and calm conditions today.
j6GnJ3il.jpg

Day 4
Cold-ish and windy. Breeze coming from 10-11 o clock. Maybe next month spring will start.
Recurve shot was good! 3/4 now.
OsszfwDl.jpg

Compound shot was not good. Think I let my front shoulder collapse. The timing of my shot also sucks right now. 1/4 so far now.
xa7wLJXl.jpg

Day 5
Recurve was a good shot to finish 4/5.
Ob4S5htl.jpg

Compound shot felt okay but ended up just out to the left. 1/5 total with 2 just out :(
E6hHEfgl.jpg

In summary, all 5 would probably kill an elk which is what I normally bowhunt, but I called a smaller vital zone on the compound and scored accordingly. Since October I'd probably shot 2 dozen arrows through the compound exclusively with field points. FP and BH were dialed in then but I did not shoot any BH before this challenge to check.

Fun as always. If it ever warms up here I look forward to shooting some more!!

This is my second year doing this. Good morning fellow archers I am doing 60 for my mer with a bowtech zion triple x 350 spine arrows with thunderhead 125 grain broadbeads. My intended target is the insert. Thanks.

First attempt this year I couldn’t have asked for a better shot. Its 42 degrees and starting to rain 08:15 north of spokane washington

6273ED87-B27B-46F4-A1E3-314F02DEFF4E.jpeg
Day 2
2 pm 55 degrees. Pretty happy with that shot. Getting old 60 yards is getting hard to see.
CA8080A0-CF39-481F-B437-9E147D2B93C2.jpeg69F7D13B-2FFA-4774-9DBF-FD6D07F54E8D.jpeg
Day 3
Well not such a great shot looks like about a foot or two low and off to the right. I hate putting this one in here. But gotta be honest on the bad ones to. 8 am 50 degrees 7A7F4835-E742-49D5-A97A-A4E419A97497.jpeg
Day 4
8ish am 40 degrees. But feels colder. Much better than yesterday. But just a bit farther to the left than i wanted. 01709001-B06E-4799-AD5C-EA5E3D090052.jpegDay 5
7 am lightly raining with a very light breeze nose to tail on the target. I guess i over compensated but at least it is on the target today. 30BD9B1D-EB42-45B5-935B-A6F06AFB8ECA.jpeg

MER 40 yards (farthest distance I've ever shot, new bowhunter). Shooting at the center 6.5" circle, anything within the white ring counts.

2021 Hoyt Torrex XT, Stock strings, cheap Fuse 3-pin sight, QAD hunter ultrarest. 340 spine Axis SPT 5mm arrows with 100 gr field tips.

First time participating in this, excited to see how it goes!

IMG_7733.JPG

4/30/22 - Day 1. Great conditions, little to no breeze.
IMG_7734.JPG

5/1/22 - Day 2. Minor breeze R to L. I actually thought I pulled it left when it broke but it ended up being a good shot.
IMG_7735.JPG

5/2/22 - Day 3. Conditions were good, slight R to L breeze. This shot felt good and I was surprised it hit where it did. Maybe too much coffee in the system. Miss!
IMG_7736.JPG

5/3/22 - Day 4. Conditions were good, no breeze. Shot felt good again. This one is borderline but it's more in than out. It's apparent that I need to adjust my 40Y pin down a bit at this point. We'll see if I can compensate for Day 5.
IMG_7737.JPG

5/4/22 - Day 5. Darn it, overcompensated. Another hit that's barely inside the target zone. This was a lot of fun and I'll be doing it again moving forward. Now to adjust this pin...

Coldbow Challenge 2022.

Shooting a Diamond Edge SB-1 RTH combo with a QAD HDX Rest set at 60 Lbs.

MER is 50 yards with 100 grain Anihilator Broadheads on GT Hunter XT Arrows.
Broadhead.jpg

For the target this year I will be using the vitals of my Glendale Buck 3d target.

Bonus shot of the range right now with all of our current projects laid out between 50 and the target.
Range.jpg

Shot 1 4/30/2022, IN a little further back than I would like it to be but I will take it.
Shot 1 4-30-2022.jpg

Shot 2 5/1/2022, BARELY in, wind was gusting up to 30 right to left, was holding for a bit of wind drift, guess I didn't get as much as I thought I might. Also, 2 shots in a row to the right, I may need to move my rest some when this is all done.
Shot 2 5-1-2022.jpg

Day 3 5/2/2022, OUT wind was calm and it was a perfect day. New to shooting at a 3d target still getting used to places to aim I think. Also looking forward to doing some more tuning when this is done, I think my BH are about 2-3 inches to the right at this range.
Shot 3 5-2-2022.jpg

Day 4 5/3/2022, Out and lost an arrow. Went over the top of my target, hit one of those branches and off it went. Haven't found the arrow yet....
Shot 4 5-3-2022.jpg

Day 5 5-5-2022. Out, missed low and buried my broadhead into some green oak and broke the back of my arrow. :)
Shot 5 5-5-2022.jpg

2 of 5 not great. Need a lot more practice and training.

Lessons learned, I am not nearly good enough at50 to be shooting at an animal at that distance. Kind of knew that already but wanted to see how I did, practice helps everything.

I also realized I suck with my follow through, I think because I was nervous shooting this distance I wanted to peak to see where the arrow was going/was hitting and didn't follow through properly.

Need to do a better tune on my bow for Broadheads, should help some.

Good news? Plenty of time before September to put in some hours of practice and get confident again.

Bowtech Zion. 70lbs, 27ish inch draw. Light and noisy bow, shoots fine though. 100 grain montecs. 60 yards. I have shot my bow once since last fall. First time CBC. 8 inch vital size, looks like I overestimated my effective range.

Well, I knew 60 yards would be a challenge, but I was expecting a little better results. I shot my bow a lot last year, mostly at 80 yards. This shows me that I need to get back into that routine before I start flinging arrows at animals.

50 yards, standing on a 20 degree slope shooting slightly down hill.

Hoyt pro defiant 34 left hand
29 inch draw
Victory Vap tko with all iron will components

Iron will 125 single bevel with bleeders

First shot is barely in!

8 3/4 plate for kill zone

Day 2 within 1/4 inch of day 1. Same setup but no wind

Day 3 same as day 2

Day 4 pretty strong wind strait on, maybe 25 mph?

Day 5 89 degrees and slight wind from my back.

All 5 shots went into the kill zone.

4 of the 5 arrows are within 1.5 inches of each other but high on the plate. Gonna have to recheck sight in

First time challenger here.

Fast Eddie xl double pin sight.
Crossroad 821 stabilizer.

Shot 1
I was aiming a little high (5 inches from impact) because I haven’t completely dialed in my new sight yet and had been hitting low earlier in the week. I’m happy with the shot, glad I didn’t hit the screwdriver.
78 degrees. 12mph wind from right to left.

Bumping a bit to 65 yards. Calling the replaceable core the vitals.

Mathews traverse 70/30.5. Shooting black eagle rampage 250s with 120gr ethics and 100 grain SS3 slick tricks. Very little shooting lately so super cold now challenge.

Day 1- light breeze 65 degrees. Ran a 1:28 half marathon this morning and drank 2 beers after at a brew fest. Less than ideal physical condition… thought it felt good but poor result. Why we do this.

Day 2- same conditions. Nothing but coffee so little jittery. Same result… consistently off so far…

Day 3- 85 degrees and no breeze. Where did spring go? Held a little low right after the first 2 days result. Put it in the vital circle! Need to check the zero after this is over…

Day 4- warm morning no breeze. Shot execution felt great but result was mediocre. Ready to get after the practice!

Day 5- nice morning, 60 degrees no wind. Miss. Felt awful from the start. Time to practice!

MER: 60 yards

Vital size : Big yellow circle on the Rinehart 18-1 (approx 8 inch diameter for mule deer)

Shooting a Mathews halon 6 @72lbs with Easton axis 300s, and tipped with SEVR 2.1”

33D21193-C4EE-4DC2-80C3-C8389F8357F1.jpeg

Shot 1:

55 degrees, sunny and no wind . Shot felt decent, pulled a little right.

25008469-FA68-4E43-87C3-AB4C7988C6E1.jpeg

Little one getting after it as well 😁(Not for CBC, just having fun with dad)
63C930D9-36A6-4DA9-A69D-F821A1D8C3D5.jpeg

Shot 2:

Cloudy, 45 degrees, Wind was blowing straight toward target at about 5mph.

Thought I missed my vital zone, but barely squeaked it in!
ADCB4693-AF28-4EBD-B4C7-49C0ADDEB8ED.jpeg

Shot 3:

Wind blowing straight in my face at 10-15 mph… didn’t want to shoot in the wind but you don’t get to choose the weather on the mountain. Barley got it in my vital area.
B1AFD43E-E423-4A34-95F0-8906F2D60013.jpeg

Shot 4:

Calm wind (and a little spring moisture 🙏🏼).

Shot 5:

Slight breeze from the target.

That’s it for me. Thanks to the Rokslide staff and the sponsors for making this possible. I thoroughly enjoy this CBC every year. Seems like my MER is about on par at the moment, hoping to bump it up before season.

I’m excited to give this another go this year! I’ll be going for an MER of 40 yards, and simulating a mule deer’s vital zone with the big yellow circle, which is about 6 1/2 inches across. Shooting a Bowtech Fuel with Easton Bloodline arrow and Muzzy broadhead.

Day 1: Off to a decent start! Clear skies, 50 degrees, wind variable at about 3-5mph.

Day 2: Overcast, 50 degrees, wind 6mph from the right. I definitely pulled this one off target by forcing the shot; just need to be a little more patient with my shot process.

Day 3: Sunny, 62 degrees, wind gusting 10-15mph from my right.

Day 4: Got out after an overnight skiff of snow melted off. It was up to 40 degrees by the time I shot, with just a very light breeze from directly behind me. Just barely kept it inside the circle.

Day 5: Overcast, 48 degrees, basically calm winds.

I ended up hitting 4 out of 5, and it’s got me really looking forward to some more practice to make sure that one miss doesn’t show up on the mountain when it really counts.
Thanks again to all involved for making this challenge happen!

First year getting in on the CBC. This is awesome. Thanks Rokslide for setting it up.

I’m shooting 60 yards with my Mathews V3 31 at 72lbs. Black gold 3-pin slider, Mathews quiver (loaded), and cutter stabilizers. Easton Axis 5mm with Iron Will inserts, collars, and V100’s. Total arrow weight 505 grains. Using paper plate to determine a hit or miss.

First shot felt good and flew straight. Hit a tad low but I’m happy with that one. Man you can feel the pressure when you step up to take that one cold shot! This is great practice

Day 2 had a slight left to right wind. I canted the bow slightly but could tell I was off when the shot fired. I think it was more my grip and nerves than the wind.

Day 3 had very slight consistent wind. Probably just a few mph. Took my time getting set up and fired a pretty good shot. A little low but I’m happy with that one. Hopefully I can repeat it tomorrow!

Day 4 same steady low wind. Shot felt a little weird but it hit inside the plate. Happy with the outcome

Day 5 no wind. I think I was used to compensating to the left because my arrow landed just on the left side of the plate. Not a great shot but it is in the plate so it counts. Overall I’m happy with 4 out of 5 at 60 yards. Especially with the fixed blade iron wills. Thanks again Rokslide this is great practice and I’m already looking forward to the next one. Good luck to everyone this season

After having to withdraw last year in ignominy with bow arm shoulder pain, happy to be back to try again this year! I haven't been shooting very much recently for a variety of reasons. But the shoulder feels good.

Shooting the venerable Hoyt Faktor Turbo @ 70lbs @ 29.5" with Montana Gold 3 pin slider and Ripcord string driven rest.

Arrow 28.25" Easton Axis 300 with 75gr brass inserts, 100gr field tips, about 490gr total

MER 55yds with field tips this year.

Day 1. Wind was calm but my release wasn't, felt a little panic when arrow wasn't going downrange when i thought it might. Missed yellow kill zone about 1/4" low

Day 2 a little bit of a breeze but not much. Juuuust a bit outside. Shot broke clean but ended up 1” outside the kill zone to the right. #humbled

Day 3
Starting to suspect I got a bad batch here

Day 5 brought only a shred of respectability back to this post.

Day 1 MER 65 yards I won't shoot past 60 on a critter but really wanted to challenge myself last year with 70. I haven't been shooting as much so 65 it is.

Hoyt Axius ultra 28.5 65 lb draw
hamskea trinity rest
5 pin black gold slider
Cutter stabilizer
Tight spot 5 arrow
Black eagle rampage 300 spine 3 fletch aae max stealth vanes 125 grain point total arrow weight 450
I'm shooting field points and trying to stay in the vitals of the deer target in preparation for my archery elk hunt this fall.

Day one 45 and raining

Day two 50 sunny and some gusty winds
20220501_111153.jpg
Third day sunny 50 and gusty winds. I held this shot for a long time waiting for the wind to break.20220507_121210.jpg
Day 4 56 degrees passing storms got my shot in while it was relatively calm.
20220508_161534.jpg
Day 5 55 and very gusty winds as you can see I didn't handle them well.

2nd time shooting the CBC!
Decided to increase distance and with shoot broadheads this year.
Preparing and Shooting at TAC last year really improved my confidence (maybe a little too much😬)
My MER is 60 yards and luckily for me my pond is 60yds across. 🤦🏻‍♂️ I don’t usually get to nervous with longer shots but Across the water without at backstop is as close as it gets to drawing back on an animal. My lovely assistant is my 3yo daughter and my son took his CBC 10 yard shot before me. I’ll post his up on his own screen name from last year if we don’t fill up.

60 yards
8” taped off square ~whitetail vitals
2011 Bowtech invasion CPX 29”@70#
Custom local strings (717 strings)
Hamskea hybrid hunter pro
Fast Eddie 3 pin
Bee stinger microhex 10” and 8” sidebar
Tight spot 5 arrow
Easton axis match grade 300
4 fletch Q2i vanes 50gr insert TAW~498gr
Annihilator 100 gr broadheads
Whipper snapper thumb release

Day 1. Perfect weather and couldn’t be happier with that shot.
Day 2. Clear and calm
Day 3. Another nice day and another acceptable shot.
Day 4. 68* calm. Was able to get one in with just enough light left for the the day.
Day 5. Got our after the rain and had my best shot.
