Hi, just updated the prize thread. S&S Archery CL Trekking poles are up for grabs.

am I the only one shooting in this thread? C’mon, don’t leave me hanging solo, someone else step up and embarrass themselves.
I just like shooting too much to only shoot one a day until we are really in it.

I'm happy to throw up my first shot of the day though!

doesn't count if you're shooting more than one bro, but hows that first shot been?

Honestly, we have had gale force winds for weeks. Yesterday was the first calm day in forever, but I worked 12 hours and the mini-me had a track meet.

As soon as the wind dies off a bit I will shoot. I promise.

I hear ya, that’s how it was here this weekend and I just could not make myself go out there knowing I was going to miss. Just waited for the wind to calm down and missed anyways

If you have any questions or comments on the 2022 Cold Bow Challenge, please post them on this thread. This will keep that challenge thread clean and easy to follow. Thanks!

For 2022, we will limit the challenge to 150 shooters. Sorry, but it’s a ton of work to qualify the shooters.

The Challenge will start Saturday, April 30th AT 8:15 MTN TIME and run 4 weeks or 150 shooters, whatever we hit first.

Be sure and choose an MER that pushes you or you will be asked to restart the challenge or disqualified. Don't forget to define your vital size so we can see it on the target.

No more "I only got 20 yards in my backyard" posts. Lots of shooters travel to places they can shoot their MER. This challenge is exactly that, a challenge to make you a better hunter, so please put some effort into it.
I can only get to 90 yards in my yard. Do I still have to put forth a bigger effort and travel to the secret draws that hold the biggins' :) Seriously thx for doing this every year

Is this still open for enrollment into "The coldbow ego awakening"?

I switched from IW to Micro 4 blade hades this year. I am also looking at using my Mathews 3D bow as I just shoot it better. I do have the V3 though so who know. Just got a ton of snow again, BUT I did set my targets up yesterday so I am ready.

Can I still sign up for this year? I am so confused.

It doesn’t start until April 30th. Nobody is signed up yet. Your entry is posting when the challenge begins the 30th. Robby explains all this in the actual cold bow challenge post (others have out the link in earlier posts). Go read that to see the qualifications. This post is just for questions. Although I understand it’s gotten confusing with some of the early posts.

Mathews TRX38 RH 60 lbs, Black Gold 5 pin slider, tight spot 2 pc quiver, Crossover telescopic stabs front and back, Hamskea trinity, Gas strings, Axis MG 400 spine(shoots better than the 340- don't judge me) Grim Reaper micro pro 4 blade 125 gr, AAE Stealth 3 fletch crazy right heli, standard nock, Truball fulcrum flex 2 finger hinge.

OR

Mathews V3 31 RH 60 lbs, gas strings, tight spot quiver, Crossover telescopic stabs front and rear, Hamskea, Black Gold 5 pin slider, Axis MG 400 spine, grim reaper micro hades 4 blade 125 gr, AAE Stealth 3 fletch right heli, Fulcrum flex hinge-2 finger.

Both these set ups are 100% new to me this year other than the release.
I will either be at 70 or 80 yards for MER

You really going to hunt with your 38?

I'd hunt with my 36, but not my 40.

Shoot your v3 as I assume that's what you will hunt with.

I plan to hunt with the 38.
The length of the new Mathews is deceptive. The riser is way taller than many think. My 38 OAL, is only a couple inches longer than my V3. It is also a bit heavier by about .6 lbs. But that is mangeable. The way it shoots is worth these 2 negatives, if you can call them a negative. I have 2 40's one is a 8, the other a 7, and they are just too long to justify. I can get the same speeds out of my 38 at 60lbs as I can my V3 at 60 lbs so I lose nothing in performance of the bow but gain in better repeatability. Been wanting to do this for years and finally decided to do it.

Yeah, what @68Plexi said

we’re just screwing around on this thread & I’ve been doing a few warm-up challenges.

Just go to the top of this thread lead post and you’ll see the link to the actual challenge. All the rules are over there

The riser on the v3x 33 is between the TRX 34 and 36 in length, that's why I like it. I get a reasonable amount more speed from the 33 than my 36, tho it's not that much. 7-8 I believe it is. I'm surprised your 38 would be producing same speeds. Is it a first generation or a second?

Like you said the 40 is just too long, for me the 38 is too. It's definitely a personal preference tho. I carry my bow strapped to my pack a lot, so overall height can be a concern. I also get my V3x to hold better with less weight than I can any of the TRX bows, but again, that's a personal thing.

If you are going to hunt with the 38, I'd definitely do the challenge with it.

the V3 set up weighs- 8 lbs 3 oz
The 38 set up weighs-8 lbs 10 oz Thats a 7 oz difference
My old PSE evoke 35 weighs- 7 lbs 10 oz

If I had the V3x I would probably hunt with it. I have last years V3. Still a dang good bow IMO. Just don't like the string angle.

My 38 is a gen2. ( double berger hole version).
I can get 66 lbs out of it so I can make the speeds match the V3 as I shoot at low 60 lbs any more. (bad shoulder). All my set ups shoot at 270-271 fps. with a 440-450 gr set up

My bow is carried on a hook on my pack belt. Been using this method for 5 or 6 years and never feel the bow weight until I am at full draw for too long. :)

I can hold the 38 with less weight better than the V3 which requires more. I use telescopic stabs so that really helps hold when fully deployed. I fell in love with these about 4 years ago.

I will post pics of the 3 bows for comparison, you will see the size difference on them. To me the V3 looks like a solid tank, the PSEZ like a delicate flower and the TRX38 in between.

My target at house. If I cross the road, I can shoot Bigfoot distance at Redding. The edge of the road on my side is 90 yards. I am standing at 70 in the pic.
This will be my CBC at 70 most likely. When I stand out by the road to shoot people get nervous.... lol

Your VX3 33 should be the same size of the 38?
My V3 31.5 is almost the same as my 38, and it's almost 1.5" shorter than your 33

I really wanted to get the TRX36. My shooting buddy has one and shot 300 in Vegas this year, and a 299 with it. I am a 29.2 DL and just desire the string angle of the taller riser bows.

Makes more sense if you are shooting more poundage on the 38. I thought you meant all things equal, you were getting same speeds.

My 31 I was able to have balanced very well with only a tightspot, had a 5 pin fixed SH hunter sight. I think in total it wasa few ounces short of 7# can't remember now, might have been 6.5.

I was thinking the riser on my 33 was a little shorter than the riser on my 36. The 31.5 or whatever was a good bit shorter than my 36. But the 38 has a little different riser design from the 36 and the 40.
