I’ve owned a bow for 7 years or so, but haven’t shot it much as my dad only rifle hunts and I want to hunt with him while I still can. That said, I’ve my second child is due in October, so I’ve been thinking about giving archery a shot this year so figured this challenge would give me the chance to jump start target practice for the year. Here’s the details:
MER- 35 yards
Bow- Bowtech Carbon Overdrive 65lbs
Arrow- Carbon Express Maxima Red 250
Broadhead- Trophy Taker Shuttle T-Lock 125gr
Shot #1
35 Degrees
Wind left to right at 15 MPH
Yikes, I need to practice a lot this summer
Shot #2
Had to take a couple days off for work, but it did me good. Had a light breeze straight at my back (bad for hunting, good for shooting!). Also a nice 60 degrees out today. Shot was slight light low, but should be a a low heart shot.
Shot #3
Super happy with this shot. Slightly low but still solidly in the vitals. 76 degrees here today with a 5-8mph breeze quartering right to left from my back. Side note- I was worried how far my arrow penetrated the target yesterday, so threw a hay bale behind it to make sure I didn’t punch all the way through today. The bale worked in stopping the arrow, but swallowed the broadhead and did some digging to recover ha.
Shot #4
Nice conditions again this morning, 50 degrees with a light breeze right to left. Barely snuck this one in my 8” vital zone, but it’s in! This challenge has been eye opening and has given me confidence that with enough shooting this summer, I can be capable enough to hunt with my bow in the fall! Heading out turkey hunting for the week and will shoot my last shoot when I get back at the end of the week.
5th Shot
87 degrees today with with light breeze again quarter away right to left. Hit low and left again (not sure if it’s a sight or shooter issue), but am solidly in the vital zone again. Really enjoyed this challenge and has motivated me more than ever to shoot my bow much more this summer and finally take it out hunting this fall! Thanks for putting it on, cool to see so many people participating. Very impressed with the level of archers on this board as well!
