My first bow that I bought for myself was a used 51# bow that I got for half price at $450. I killed my first few animals with it. I still have it and shoot it on occasion. You can get some great used bows for about $400 if you are willing to be patient, look around and do your research.
50# is...
I haven't looked at this thread for a while, and not to stir the pot too much but... yes Kuiu is similarly priced to some other gear... if you dig a little deeper than just comparing cost you would see it is also being sold without a retail markup like some of the other gear... correct me if I...
Saw this on the kuiu forum, info from the latest edition of elk hunter magazine:

Looks like there will be a beefed up version of the Icon to go on the Ultra frame. 500 D and I am guessing the Icon style pockets...
How long I will ride it out really depends on the particular hunt for me. If it is just a local hunt I will still usually ride it out but occasionally I will head home and come back out when the weather improves. I don't feel bad about that because it's local. Why be miserable when I can go home...
The prices of gear being lowered seems like a topic worthy of conversation to me. I work hard to be able to buy the gear I want to use. Information like this is relevant to me. I thought other people on here who work hard all week to be able to pursue their passion would agree and be happy that...
I understand what you are saying. I love hunting with my trad bow, but I have respect for all of the other forms of hunting and will do them on occasion. This sounds like the right decision for you at this time and I wish you all the best with your future hunts.
The size of the pack really depends on how minimalist you want to go. Extremely minimalist you can get away with a 2000 ci easily. If you are bringing bigger bulkier gear / more food and water, you may need a bigger pack.
For me personally I would be looking at about a 3000 ci pack. I like to...
I don't really get the bashing that keeps going on. I am sure I have done it in the past and not really realized it. If something does not work for you, thats fine. You are entitled to share your opinion like everyone else. But that product may work well for other people. By turning these...
My rig is set up pretty well right now, a major thing I am missing that I want to get is a winch in case I get stuck. I have not gotten stuck yet... but I don't want to be that guy that has to call for help because the truck is stuck and I cannot get it out... I usually wrap my bow in a towel...
I can't find the thread I posted yesterday about the Kuiu announcement. Was it accidentally deleted? I was hoping to hear what other people thought about the announcement.
When I go to the national forest near my home that is full of tree hugging hippies I try to avoid other people and be as covert as possible. I try to park in random spots away from other people and follow game trails / bushwack as much as possible. It can be a pain in the ass but it makes for a...
I use all merino for my baselayers and have been really happy with it. If a company comes out with a synthetic that has the same performance benefits as merino I would be willing to try it. For what is on the market right now, Merino is my top choice.
snowcamoman,
Have you tried using the extra compression straps on the bottom of the Ultra. For me it made a big difference with securing the load. I have carried 115 pounds in the ultra with no hotspots or discomfort. I got the weight secured really well, high and tight on my back with the...
