Interested in feedback on hunting areas that have been recently burned. Are these areas good to concentrate on the next season after a major fire or do they generally need more time to regenerate? I am heading to NM in September and it sounds like the area we are hunting in the Gila had some pretty major fires over the last few years.

They can certainly be productive but I would caution you to be very careful under the trees. Root systems can burn out and trees can fall at anytime. Be especially careful in the wind. Good luck.

We love burns! Elk don't bed in them much during the day so look for those green timbered pockets on the fringes of the burns, north, northeast or northwest slopes even smaller areas of these pockets are great bedding spots in the cool timber especially where they bench out!

Paul, your throwaway/offhand/casual tips are always excellent. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
