In the market for a zero turn. I have 4 acres but mow about 1 - 1 1/2 of that maybe eventually 2. I've watched countless reviews and I think I'll probably get the Bad Boy ZT Elite 54 or 60 in.
What is everyone using and your pros and cons?
I've looked at scag, toro, gravely and others.

I've bought a few recently and went with commercial models that had rebuildable transmissions. My local small engine repair shop had similar things to say as the guy in the attached video.

I've watched a bunch of his. Whatever I get it'll have the serviceable transmissions.

I bought a lightly used exmark pioneer in 2020, its 52", slightly underpowered at 19hp, and still cuts my 2 acres in about 60 minutes. If/when I need another I'll look hard at scag and the pro level exmarks

I had a Exmark for a few years and had nothing but engine problems and they never really figured out why. The cut was phenomenal, but the engine sucked. Bought a Grasshopper and it's been a beast since day 1! Cutting about 3 acres with numerous trees and fence lines take about 2 hours.

What's your budget?
We run commercial grade John Deere diesels for the grounds at the community college I work for. They retail over $30K. But we get them considerably cheaper through the state purchase program. The little diesels run forever, but all the electronic crap Deere put on them has caused problems.

Not anywhere close to that. $6000 is my budget.

Lots of people here run hustlers, me included, but mine is a small cheaper home mower. 42" cut, 21 hp Kawasaki. 10 years old and still rips. Lots of HP for the cutting size. Fast!

I've used a JD Z735 54" for 7-8 years to mow about an acre. It has been flawless. My in-laws use a JD Z9xx series to mow about 4 acres and that too has been flawless. As with most mechanical items, proper maintenance is important for longevity and reliability.

Around here, I see mostly JD, Kubota, Bobcat and Toro machines. It seems most people I've talked to have been pleased with whatever machine they purchased.

Have used Exmark Lazer Z mowers for the last 15 years or so, 60” cut. Never had any troubles with them, most of the commercial guys around here use them.

Most of them, doesn’t matter the brand will have similar parts (motor/hydros). Just go with a dealer close by you want to work with!

Also make sure you have enough motor for your 50-60” deck. There is a big difference in how the 23-25hp mowers cut compared to the 30+ with that size deck.

I bought a Husqvarna PZ60 back about 12-13 years ago with the 31HP Kawasaki. Cut about a little shy of 2 hilly acres with it. No shortage of power and is a pretty comfortable ride. Never had an issue. Still runs great to this day. General maintenance of blades and oil/filter changes is about all I have had to do with it. One thing to keep in mind though, if you have hilly terrain to make sure not to get a mower with a transaxle.
