Might could put a pin on the end of your stabilizer, lol.

I can't even see my stabilizer through my peep. I could easily get 100 with my bottom pin, but beyond that could be a challenge. Hmmmmm.......a challenge? I could always just stack pins beyond 100. Whatever, I just need to find one of these shoots.

Just a silly comment about shooting past 100.

I've been waiting for some sort of competition with this type of thing, but I never seem to find any. Would love to do a 3D tourney with fixed BH's with all targets from 50-100, with the same designations and restrictions as regular 3D.....bowhunter class, etc.

California has a state broadhead shoot each year.

+1 for the Valkyrie system. I've shot a sizeable selection of box-store fixed-blades. Most recently G5 Strikers, Montecs, Magnus, a variety of 2-blades including bone, cutthroat and kudu. Even at higher FOC's, all have had a poi shift from feild points. Not the Jaggers though.

Just checked that out. And it just happens to be on the weekend that I pick up my daughter from college. Perhaps they'll pick an earlier or later weekend next year, and I'll try and make it. But I need to find out the details on it. If it's just your normal distance 3D shoot out to 50, I'm not really interested. But ruining a bunch of arrows could be fun.

Its a challenging course from what I hear with some long shots. I have a bunch of buddies that shoot it. The one guy I shoot 3D with took 5th a couple yrs ago...and my buddy from SD won it 4 years in a row back in the day. Its always on the same long holiday weekend which makes it tough for me. I've been told they have some 70 yd shots at that shoot.

But there are so many guys that say, "If its 60 yds....its dead"........... that shoot will be a piece of cake for those guys to win it. /sarc

There isn’t any shots at the CA state broadhead over 60 yards. There are 40 targets a day and the vast majority are from 25 - 45. Usually one at or near 60. The second day is the same 40 targets and they move the shooting stake a few yards or change the angle.

And you don’t really damage that many arrows at all. Only four shooters at a time and its one arrow. You also rotate the shooting order as well.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like every other normal 3D shoot except using broadheads. Not sure how they're not ruining a bunch of arrows, even with FP's we ruin at least 3-4 every round with four guys shooting. With fixed blades a lot more would be going down.

Most are not as accurate with fixed blades and it is unmarked so they are not stacking them on top of each other.

Ya, except judging yardage and shooting an unknown distance out to 60 is a lot more complex than ranging an animal at 60 and putting it through the lungs.

Most are not as accurate with fixed blades and it is unmarked so they are not stacking them on top of each other.

Ya, but if it's only out to 45 for most of the targets BH's shouldn't be much different than FP's for most guys. I would assume that everyone BH tunes their bows if they know they're doing this shoot. In the right group we'll have all four arrows touching lots of times with FP's even unmarked.

You will rarely have two touching at the state broadhead. The state broadhead is run by our cbh/saa organization and this event is the least attended of our four state tournaments. It doesn’t attract a single top level archer to the field. On a good year there may be 120 participants and most years around 85-100.

It is usually held at Tejon most years as the cbh/saa is mostly Southern California guys and they don’t like to travel. It has been at the Lodi Archery Club in the past and tat course as unmarked is very difficult and the scores reflect it.

They reflight the classes the second day so the top shooters shoot together, even then the arrows are not stacked together.

I shoot 25+ outdoor tournaments a year and it is pretty unusual to see 45 yard targets with arrows stacked on top of one another, but maybe I just don’t shoot as well as some other folks in other states.

How do they compare to the kudus? I don’t have experience with either but I think I would prefer the kudu because the blade and ferrule are permanently attached vs a screw attachment with the helix

I can tell you that durability isn’t an issue at all even if the blade is attached with a screw. I don’t know much about the Kudu’s but I can’t say enough about the Helix and I don’t think they get near the attention they probably should.

Also, I saw that you mentioned sharpening blades in the thread. Strickland makes a sharpener just for the Helix broadhead and it works great.

I shot iron will last year and they flew true to 70yds, which was my self imposed max. Will likely shoot them again this year but a new bow is in order so I will have to see what it likes best
