Yet another 6 arc bolt build (for newbie)

Welcome to owning a Howa Mini. I have a 6.5 Grendel in. Mini with similar issues feeding. So I am looking to build a Tikka in the same caliber. Also have a ruger ranch in 6.5G. Solved the feeding issues with a Bravo chassis and AICs mags. As you have mentioned. The bolt on a ruger is terrible IMO. Just to sloppy. Too heavy to carry hunting unless you are box blind hunting.

Odds are I’ll build a custom Grendel on a Tikka action.

So what's the plan? Fix it and run it or ditch it and go a different route? Ive never once regretted any of the 3 zermatts I own because theyre so modular. The 6arc is a great choice for that next step "up" from a .223 and will likely be what I get my son next. Just dont know that it'll be on an aftermarket action but its a great excuse to pick up another one.

I’m not sure. I mean even as a “cheap” option it’s still like $2k with this chassis! Sunk cost feeling is real. The jamming was driving me nuts at the range though and would worry about that in the field. I wonder if there’s some hack to make it less frequent?

I've had three Howa mini's in .223, 7.62x39, and 6.5 Grendel. Zero feeding issues with the factory mag set up, a JO blind mag, and an Oregunsmithing hinged bottom metal, using the factory plastic stock or a Bell & Carlson stock. Mine were 22" sporter and two 20" heavy barrel.

Is that a factory barrel or a prefit? Did you buy a rifle and take it apart or a barreled action? I'm going to say that something related to the chassis and the mag fit is what's causing your jamming issue.

It’s the carbon fiber barreled action on an Elf Owl chassis.

I’ve got two howa mini barreled actions. One in 223 and a carbon barreled 6 arc both in trybe defense chassis. 770 rounds on the 223 in two months and 350 rounds on the 6 arc. Haven’t had any feeding issues and I run the bolts fast. Did you try a few different mags? I agree with the above post, maybe the mag fitment is off with that chassis or the spring in the mag needs stretched out. Hopefully you get it figured out, that’s a pretty sweet setup!

What are the other mag options? Would love a metal one but didn’t seem to exist for a chassis.

I just meant trying another factory mag out. I believe the only other is MDT makes a 10 rounder if I’m not mistaken. I have 3 or 4 factory mags for my arc and haven’t had an issues.

I ended up doing the Howa + Elf Owl chassis. It’s a little dinky and nothingView attachment 948959 like my Tikka but whatever!
Nice build. How many rounds do you have through it? After a couple of hundred rounds, my Howa mini with a Jefferson hinged bottom plate is running smoother. It started out sounding like a zipper and was easy to jam with a slightly short bolt throw.

I'm not familiar with howa mini and associated detachable mags but I'd look into any mods that may be necessary to the mag or mag latch on the chassis to get the mag in a position that feeds better.
