Been thinking to build/buy a 6 arc bolt gun. I know it’s been talked about at length here to build one from either a Tikka or howa mini action.

I was pretty set on going the Tikka route, then yesterday I’m at the LGS doing some suppressor stuff and came across a Savage axis 2 pro in 6 arc. Now I realize this isn’t the 110 action but it checked a lot of boxes;
Nice stock, flush mag, adjustable LOP (so my son can shoot it as well), threaded barrel. Trigger was a bit heavy but that seems easy enough to address.

The question is does anyone have any real experience with this particular rifle and more specifically this caliber. Tried searching but didn’t find much in regards to accuracy and feeding.

Thanks

Never fired one, but I checked one out at a show.

Cock on open seemed a bit rough and heavy - not ideal for anyone, but maybe even worse for a youth? Tough to stay on target and get a good follow up shot with a clunky action. I'd rather give a youth the best chance at success, within reason, and not hamstrung them with something clunky.

The fore end didn't seem very stiff either.

Didn’t check the fore end for flex but definitely something I’ve noticed on my Ruger American.
The bolt was a little stiff and see what you’re saying about hamstringing. Read one review that said it lightens up after use but that may be optimistic.

I see they’re coming out with a 110 that is supposed to be available in 6arc but I already have 2 tikkas with another on the way (if euro gets it in). So might just stick to that route. Familiar is good.

I have an Axis Pro in .223. My time on it has been short but I can say it shoots well for a budget minded rifle. I use it for a training rifle and varmints. The bolt lift is by far one of the worst I’ve experienced. The bolt lift kit makes a noticeable but minor difference.

The trigger with an MCARBO spring is hard to beat. I’ve noticed on my few accu trigger rifles that each trigger is different but they are easy to adjust.

For the money I have had a blast with the rifle though. I’m at 170ish rounds down the pipe and have already got my money’s worth.

You're probably not going to get a more accurate rifle for the money. I played with one for a while, sold the action and stock, and put the Axis barrel on a 110 action and it shot great there too. When I messed up the group would be 3/4", when I held it together, it was 1/2" or better, on both actions.

Note that I said ACCURATE. That's the only redeeming quality of the Axis, in my experience with a few. It ain't pretty, it ain't smooth, it ain't nice. It WILL shoot and it does have a flush fit mag, which I prefer. People piss and moan about these plastic stocks, but I put that Axis in three different stocks besides the factory one. Two from Boyds and the Magpul Hunter Lite, and it didn't shoot any better in those than in the factory plastic stock.

Right now, I don't know that there's a perfect ($1000 or less) bolt action platform for the ARC. They're all compromises.

We talked about the Savage Axis.

The Howa Mini is a nicer action, the bottom unit sucks and I hate two stage triggers on hunting rifles, so it's an extra $300+ over the factory setup to remedy that. People piss and moan about that factory plastic stock too, but same game with the Savage, I put a couple different Mini actions in different stocks and it made NO difference. I've got the 22" sporter 6 ARC in the youth plastic stock in my safe now, undecided on what's going to happen to it. It shoots all three Hornady factory loads into 1" or better 5 shot groups.

I have NOT played with the Ruger American in 6 ARC. I'm not a huge fan of the rifle after playing with a couple in .223 and they were ho-hum. It's probably the best suited ready to go rifle, though, IMO. The stock is serviceable, the trigger is serviceable, and you can buy flush fit mags for it. I've ran into other Americans at the range that were absolute tack drivers in .223, and there's lots on the net about their accuracy as well.
