I am building a 7 suam with xlr chassis curious what others experiences is with the saum mag vs the hawkins precision flush fit mag? The flush fit is half the weight, same capacity, and obviously flush fit.

Short action I assume? In a long action 7 saum, I used the hawkins mags and they worked great. AICS mag will give a bit more capacity and are cheaper, but will be a bit noisier.

Yes short action. According to xlr website hawkins has longer max oal, 3 rounds same as short AICS mag

Did you ever end up getting either? I just got this one: https://hawkinsprecision.com/product/hunter-flush-chassis-magazine-xlr-mpa-only/

And it doesn’t work well for me - the issue seems to me to be a design flaw. The rear end of the follower (if that’s the right term) is wider and when compressed down can shift forward such that when it travels back up it gets hung up on the sides of the box that are narrower at the top middle as they guide the round. The result is that the third round doesn’t get pushed up on the rear and won’t pick up. Anyone else experience this? Not sure if I should return it or maybe shape/file the follower to see if I can fix it. I like that it’s light weight.

Mine did this too. I had to rotate the mag spring 180deg and so far it’s worked better…worth a try.

Mines a SA 7WSM fwiw.

Thank you that’s helpful. I need to get that tiny Allen key to take it apart first!

Mine is SA 300WSM

Mine do it occasionally. I load them very carefully and they don’t do it as often.

You have to do a little sanding on the mag follower and it will work better for sure. Had the same issue with the magazines for my 6.5SAUM/300 WSM

Okay perfect - that’s exactly what I had in mind. You don’t happen to recall the size of the Allen key to remove the bottom so you? It’s smaller than any I have and so need to get one.

XLR kindly reached out and offered to exchange the magazine, but I got that Allen key and tried filing the follower a bit as suggested by others and it seems to have solved the issue.

Hey all, if you're having this issue please reach out to us directly. We have replacement followers we can send out. This was something we ran into some time ago, but all new Hawkins chassis mags should not be binding up in the rear. The fix mentioned above is correct as well and have since corrected the issue.
