I am currently in the middle of my first "custom" build. I am doing a 6.5prc on a Rem 700 action with an OMR carbon barrel. I am down to deciding what chassis I am going to use. I think I have it narrowed down to 2. The Ultadyne UD Classis and the XLR Element 4.0MG. I like to the weight of the XLR but like the price of the Ultradyne. I would love to hear opinions on both or if there is one that I should know about. I have already kind of ruled out the MDT HNT26 mostly due to budget constraints. Thanks in advance for your input.

Best option is to find one used from the forums. I have 2 HNT26 chassis and 2 XLR Element chassis. I do prefer the HNT26, but the XLR is likely more durable. It will weigh more and will be cold to the touch in the winter.

Coug, did you end up picking a chassis? I am in the very early stages of deciding on components for a chassis rifle. This will be my first one, as I have historically shot traditional hunting rifles only.

XLR Element 4.0MG in my configuration (carbon grip, carbon butt stock) is 28oz, HNT26 is shown as 26-31oz depending on configuration. My sons HNT26 is 30oz. So I would say there is no meaningful weight difference between the two.

I like my XLR a lot. However I will say when shooting in a heavy caliber the recoil is quite nasty for me. I tried it with my 300PRC and a 7PRC set ups. I now have a 25-06AI in the chassis and that is a joy to shoot.

this. used you can usually sell for what you paid if it doesn't work out. I too prefer the hnt 26 to utradyne/XLR. much better to carry because its not a squared forend and the carbon doesn't get cold. you can also use the MDT 3rd flush mags and the thumb is more in line with the bore with the hnt 26 thumb notch vs canted way out with the XLR or not at all with the ultradyne. can also get the buttpad above bore with a spacer mod or the zeroed in outdoors mdt spacer. that helps a lot with muzzle rise in a 6.5 PRC. grips can be swapped but I like the palmswell on the Hnt26 grip as well. only thing I like about XLR style is I prefer their folder mechanism.
