I have the points (hopefully) to draw a region H this year if I go solo or maybe share points with a buddy next year if point creep doesn't get to crazy. My main question right now is how are the grizzly populations/densities in certain areas (I realize it varies widely throughout the region). If you have recent experience in the southern portion of the region and don't mind sharing some info regarding the big bears please shoot me a pm and I will be a little more specific in the area I am considering!

Thanks in advance.

Take what you think is being really precautious and go next level cautious while your out here. practice using the spray a couple times and if you come out here just hang your food a 100 yds away and don’t spend a tons of time cooking and leaving food scent out to blow around. Nobody really knows how many grizzlies have moved further south and east east. You only can do so much.

Thanks for the input guys. I figure better safe than sorry is always the best policy in bear country!

I'll be in Wyoming unit 85 the last week of September and even though I'll have a 300 weatherby mag I'm bringing spray and a .44 mag

They are there, but in low densities. I'd be more concerned about lightning from a statistical point of view. Your chances of having a bad griz encounter are probably less than getting into a fatal accident on the way there - just take common sense precautions and enjoy the hunt/country

I’ve hunted this area a hand full of times and never had an encounter, however a buddy of mine had one come into his camp and scare the daylights out of him. The bear moved on when he yelled but he looked like a ghost when we met back up!!! I carry a side arm but like others said they are few and far between in that area.

Is it better to camp in the open with grizzlies around. Or tuck back into the timber for concealment.

I don't think it really matters. By the time you realize what's going on, you probably only have a few more seconds before it's lights out. He is going to find you either way.
