Alaska is about 96% public land and twice the size of Texas. Yet you have to have a guide to hunt sheep, griz bear, mtn goat, etc. So, let's rip on Ak for awhile now. Just kidding. Life isn't always fair. States have the right to manage game species as they seem fit. All the arguing won't change that. If our BH sheep and moose populations hadn't each declined by 50% or so in the last 25 years, the 90-10 change may not have ever happened.

Good job entirely missing the point. That's like... your thing I guess.

Better keep guessing, multiple state and federal agencies would disagree with you, and quite frankly I trust the people who write the checks more than I trust your opinion.

If Minnesota has a barely huntable elk herd on entirely resident-funded state owned and private land, it's not even close to the same thing as an established herd of more than 100,000 on on several huge tracts of federal public land(that every citizen in this country owns and pays for) with a little state land and some private land too. If your tax dollars were helping to pay for the land that those Minnesota elk live on you might have a reasonable comparison and an argument for why you should be able to throw your hat in the ring for even odds at a longshot tag, but you don't.

I'm not arguing the legality of whatever system Wyoming wants to implement with the big 5. If 90/10 makes it to D/E/A, it's currently Wyoming's prerogative to do so. Is there precedent for a legal argument to change things? Maybe. That's not my area of expertise, but It might be interesting to see what happens down the road.

What do people mean when they say “the big five” when talking about hunting in the western states? I’ve always thought of that term in reference to African game species. Is it five species or five states? Which ones? Why call them that? I’ve never heard that before here.

Been flapping your fat gums for over a week now about this topic and your wanting to limit NR tag numbers and you dont even know what the "big 5" of Wyoming is?

I think some have steered this conversation off topic intentionally. 90/10 was inevitable. Most non residents understand that and don't fault a single resident for supporting it.

The really tough pill to swallow is the what's going to happen now question for so many non residents that have invested significantly, some for decades. We bought into a system with a set of rules. Those rules are being changed to the point that many may not have a chance to draw in our lifetime. That sucks. That doesn't make us entitled or whiners to be unhappy about it.

This isn't about wilderness, Outfitters, taxes, federal lands, or anything else some of you may be upset about. Wyoming has the right to manage their wildlife as they are fit. My only hope is that the state finds the best compromise to the situation so the people investing in PP for years don't feel like they were just wasted.

Ford guy hit the nail on the head. If I ever had the fortunate luck of drawing a Minnesota elk tag I would not have access to federal land to hunt. Once In a lifetime tag and no where to use it. No land. I asked a simple question previously . As a Wyoming resident if there was no federal land how would that affect YOUR hunting ? No answers. By the way for you traditional archery guys . Howard hill had a bow called the "BIG FIVE" in honor of African game , so yes there is a western and African version.

What if elk were on the moon? How would that affect your hunting?

You can keep repeating the same talking point all you want, it doesn't change the fact that access to federal lands, and access to hunting a limited resource in a state are TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THINGS.

I put that in all caps for you this time. Hope that helps!

Man never going to read too much of this but my 2cents is Wyo residents can do whatever they choose w it’s wildlife. If it is that big of a individual priority put up and move there if not stop bitchin…

I got 3 friends that moved up there in the past couple years and honestly I might return once my girls clear school - back to the state my grandparents and father was born in…. I think a lot of folks are seeing (weatherby/kifaru as well as others) is that Wyoming is looking like a pretty attractive
place to spend a decade or 2.

This is basic math. How do you guys not understand if a non resident wants to hunt sheep unguided in Wyoming there are basically only two units that can be done in? That limits your ability to draw the tag because it concentrates more applications there into those few units.
How many units can you hunt DIY in Alaska as a NR ? Nice profile pic...

We are talking about Wyoming.
Because he has a sheep in profile pic he isn’t allowed to be upset that 20 years of points and money are worthless ?

My take was the exact opposite of yours. Threads on this topic pop up frequently, more so since the task force convened. I have seen Wy residents called lazy, greedy, slobs, drunks, welfare bums, etc. So far off base from what I have experienced with the many residents I have met and shared camp with.

Yes, we're talking about Wyo. And Wyoming can manage our wildlife how we see fit; like any state can. And truthfully, his points are as valid as they were before 90/10. Drawing odds not so much. But it's happened to me in other states and I didn't carry on like what's happening now.
