ODFW started farming out their draw two years ago. That's how we got the new reports. WY does their draw in house.
Points may be more expensive, but you don't have to buy a $150 +or- license first in order to get them.so now that they are in line with other states for allocation are they going to charge $10 for a point like those other states do?

Thanks for posting the article. Just scanned through it. Here is my takeaway, it’s obvious that different people have different definitions of successful. The article clearly states the system is working, though every year more people jump in and odds get lower. To me, that means the system is not working.
Other than a straight preference point system.@Bobbyboe The data shows that despite more applicants each year, the draw odds distribution across bonus points does not reflect that. That is the indication that the system is at least not performing poorly. There is no system that wouldn't reduce odds with more people jumping in.
You are right. Not sure I would want that system for the OIL species though.Other than a straight preference point system.
Not many would... unless they had been buying points for many years and were almost in a position to draw. You are right. Not sure I would want that system for the OIL species though.
I have looked at literally every hunt group in Nevada and every one of them is a bell shaped curve on successful applicants distribution. Mathematically it makes total sense too, basically as the middle is cut out there are fewer people with the higher points stuck in the system. At the bottom there are always a few lucky ones but not many.@Bobbyboe The data shows that despite more applicants each year, the draw odds distribution across bonus points does not reflect that. I haven't looked at the NV data but I'm with you based on how their bonus point system works. The data I referenced is for CO, which is fundamentally different than NV; the CO distributions are not Gaussian.I have looked at literally every hunt group in Nevada and every one of them is a bell shaped curve on successful applicants distribution. Adding more people to the system would simply raise the whole bell curve across the board.
It depends on how many actually apply. I have never chased the top areas. I honestly could care less if my tag was in 38 or the worst area of the state. That said, I have been within .5-2 points for several years running. I was in a successful point class one year but was one of the unlucky guys who didn't draw. I just want to hunt a Shiras moose and don't really care if he is 35" or 55". I honestly had made up my mind to get a cow tag right before they doubled the tag price so decided to wait to see what the increase did to the applicant pool.I'm sure most of the NR are aware the number of people in their pool as far as points go? When someone says they are about to draw how close are you? Just curious. I know as a resident it would take over 50 years to burn through all the point holders ahead of me at 8-9 points. That's assuming the only way to leave the pool is by drawing.
That’s a great idea! Move I-80 to Colorado! I’m starting a committee.Nope, unless you live there they want you out, next they’ll probably propose moving the Interstate out of WY to keep others out or put a NR toll on it, why not make NR pay for their roads.
Great idea but they would prefer to move it the other wayThat’s a great idea! Move I-80 to Colorado! I’m starting a committee.
Sure, wherever is elsewhere is fine by me. I just don’t get the sniveling about 90/10. If you are dead set on hunting Wyoming every year, get a job here, move here, pay taxes here. Otherwise enjoy your Piggly Wiggly or whatever it is you have where you live now.Great idea but they would prefer to move it the other way

And really, I only mention moving here because I can’t stop you. That’s my main gripe about WY… all the non me’s that are here.
