They do mean the same thing except Point Creep doesn't pertain to bonus points.Point Creep or decreasing odds, both the same in my book. Are residents subject to the bonus system?
How would you propose to correct that system? Cap the applicants? Keep adding more tags? Make every tag OIL?every year more people jump in and odds get lower. To me, that means the system is not working.
Buzz and many residents don’t like my proposal to filter more people through and to even the playing field for all applicants. If you want to if you want to better the odds and rotate more people through, you need to make people chose a weapon specific season. That proposal would defiantly increase odds, but residents don’t want to give up the long seasons. I have no skin in the game, but would gladly give up season length and weapon choose for better odds. How would you propose to correct that system? Cap the applicants? Keep adding more tags? More and more people want a fixed number of tags making things tough for everyone especially if antlers are a priority.
One of my Wyoming friends has drawn ONE type 1 elk tag in his home area in the past 16 years.
Thanks for posting the article. Just scanned through it. Here is my takeaway, it’s obvious that different people have different definitions of successful. The article clearly states the system is working, though every year more people jump in and odds get lower. To me, that means the system is not working.
Thank you for that! I’ve got good friends in Wyoming. Heck, your executive director of the WYldlife Fund is a friend that moved from here to your great state. Love getting back to the 307 to visit him, a certain realtor/guide/friend, and drink some Black Tooth brews! You have a clear misunderstanding of how points work and you aren't the only one. It's impossible for a bonus point holder to need more bonus points to draw a tag from one year to the next. It might help, but it is not required.
Under bonus points, one point is all that is required to draw. A first time applicant gets one random number, while a 10 times applicant gets 100 numbers(or 10 if not a squared system). Only your low number counts. From one year to the next it never changes, it's a totally random system not affected by how many bonus points you have. It is not possible to have point creep. "Point creep" is a catch-all phrase, that is meaningless in a true bonus point system, and commonly used by anyone who hates a preference point system. It pertains to how many pp are required to draw an area and how they can increase from one year to the next. That does not happen with bonus points.
I have no illusions, based on what you have already said that you will now understand this, but try. This is me trying to show "a little humility/support" that @tdhanses thinks Wyoming residents lack.
Why in Gods name would any resident of Wyoming show any support or humility for a nonresident we owe U nothing. I for one and many other residents of Wyoming would like to see 90/10 for EDA and while we are at it Wyoming needs to do away with reduced price Nr Cow calf elk tags those need to go to full price nr doe fawn antelope tags need to double in price...
Ull be waiting a long time to bye a land owner tag in Wyoming probably be better of heading to Colorado for Ur tag... They will probably welcome U with open arms down there with Ur intitled attitude... Good LuckYeah if the change ever happens that is currently on the shelf for DEA.

So does that put you in the "responding to tone" or "ad hominem" category? LOL!
I think I’m going to make the Logo for the forum.
Point well taken! So does that put you in the "responding to tone" or "ad hominem" category? LOL!

Sure. I think the author is saying it works from a mathematical standpoint.

Ok, thinking out load and could possibly be off the rails. If I were a resident, which I’m not, and the state went to bonus points, I’d have a few questions. The first would be, what are the point totals for all people involved in this proposal? Are any of the people proposing this change just below max points for any big 5 species? If so, are their motives self serving, so they better their personal chances to draw. Because a bonus system hurts the odds for the max pool and the bottom half (new applicants). The just below max are the winners…
So, knowing now that residents will most likely going to bonus, is it a fair question to ask?
I know you said WY, but ODFW does this same exact thing. Everyone gets a random application number and then they draw seeding numbers and start from there. All ran in house and highly unlikely WY would farm out private citizen info. ODFW’s is all private except for the seed number they start with. People, with relative accuracy, are able to gauge if they’re likely to draw or notI liked your explanation. Specific to Wy, do you know if:
1. There is documentation available to the public on exactly how this process works? Maybe the entire thing is contracted out to a company that has secret software for this?
2. The finalized/randomized list of each hunter and thier "low number" is available to the general public?
3. The system is audited/overseen by an independent group who monitors for fraud, errors, mistakes, etc?
