Wyoming Non Resident Preference Point Increase

If they can raise an additional $14 million with the increase I'm surprised it took them so long to do it.

I don't play the points game so the point price is irrelevant to me. I still hunt Wyoming every year. At my age hunting elk is more important than antlers although I still apply for a Type 1. I just treat it like a New Mexico draw.

I can live with the increase. As an east coast hunter, I am getting crushed by all of the western states so its part of the life now.

I do wish, we could have some type of measurable data to show how the money is allocated and if its effectively being used. I fear that the majority of these Wildlife departments are going the way of public schools. 90% of the budget used on admins and 10% on the animals.

Don't like it but bring your lunch to work for a few days instead of eating out and you can cover it. Ive got too many points to quit at this point. At least they didn't double like Utah.... or Colorado now making you buy a general just to put in for points......

It would be one thing if it was 1-3 years to get a gen tag but it 5-7 years now… so that’s a chunk of change before you even get a chance to buy a NR tag… sucks cause it will likely hit families the most… doubt this will do anything to point creep though too many people chasing the western hunts so they will jack the prices up and people will continue to pay

Only blame ourselves, too many 'grip and grin photos'.......
Quit whining and put the work in. If you want to be cheap, hunt somewhere else. Guys will spend $750 on a pack, $1200 on a bow, $1000 on clothing, $300 on boots, $2000 on binos and then complain about a $75 fee.
With that logic you better not complain about the price of fuel or groceries

"If I apply in WY, what exactly do I receive in return for that $75 fee?"
asks the 20 year old non-resident.

All these price increases across the West are simple - supply and demand.
Western Hunting is at an all time high for demand and the supply is somewhat limited.
I am guessing the prices of PPs and Tags will be increaing for the next 5-10 years until it starts to be come unreachable. I thought WY pushing the NR Special Elk Price to $1800 would push people away and it hasn't.
Will we see $2500 NR elk tags? Probably. People will pay it.

I've been chatting with a few folks about that. Its funny for how expensive Africa use to look compared to hunting in the US today. For the cost of a moose hunt in Alaska, you'd have a fantastic trip in Africa and hunt 5-7 species.
For the cost of a moose hunt in Alaska, I’ll kill 12 critters in SA. The only negative is you have to buy meat when you get home. So, with beef prices, it may be better to go kill a high $ moose.
I cashed in my antelope points this year. Have 4 deer points. So, I’ll have to keep spending $75 to get a hunt I’ll enjoy. But, won’t buy antelope points again, so, it’s a wash.
