Wyoming Non Resident Preference Point Increase

For the cost of a moose hunt in Alaska, I’ll kill 12 critters in SA. The only negative is you have to buy meat when you get home. So, with beef prices, it may be better to go kill a high $ moose.
I cashed in my antelope points this year. Have 4 deer points. So, I’ll have to keep spending $75 to get a hunt I’ll enjoy. But, won’t buy antelope points again, so, it’s a wash.

I’d rather go to Alaska, and not kill a moose, for the same cost you spend to KILL 50 animals in Africa.

The added fees aren’t going away. They’ll continue to go higher and higher until they find the tipping point, which I’m honestly not sure they will. Even if 50% of hunters drop out due to cost, the other 50% account for decades worth of sold out tags.

All these price increases across the West are simple - supply and demand.
Western Hunting is at an all time high for demand and the supply is somewhat limited.
I am guessing the prices of PPs and Tags will be increaing for the next 5-10 years until it starts to be come unreachable. I thought WY pushing the NR Special Elk Price to $1800 would push people away and it hasn't.
Will we see $2500 NR elk tags? Probably. People will pay it.
I really wish the East coast wildlife departments would recognize this and start pushing for better habit and trophy quality on whitetails. They could increase revenue and take some pressure off the west.

The downside is you won't be bringing home any meat for the freezer!
I dont disagree. My least favorite part of African hunting. My preference is always to state side but Africa continues to become a "budget" option when you compare it the direction of some elk/moose/deer hunts in the US.

I think its something to do once or twice but I wont ever be the guy that hunts Africa 30 times. I prefer the grind of a western hunt to the luxury of an Africa hunt.

"If I apply in WY, what exactly do I receive in return for that $75 fee?"
asks the 20 year old non-resident.
You could explain - A chance to draw a general season tag in 5 to 6 years assuming there’s not more point creep, which they’re almost as guaranteed to be, than you could be looking oh my 7 or 8.
I wouldn’t even get into the ever present threat of switching DEA to 90-10🤣

That should get them excited about applying.

Yeah. It will probably encourage them to take up a different hobby.

Like ever-increasing property taxes.
The message is clear:
"We don't need your kind (non-wealthy) here."

“The chance to hunt in a state that owes me nothing as I am not a resident there.” That’s the answer.
I understand your perspective.

I would argue they do owe non-residents to a degree because we pay for the majority of the system.

If Wyoming wants to raise resident costs to $300 bucks a year to exclude non-residents. They would absolutely have the right to tell us to pound sand.

I cant speak for anyone that lives in Wyoming but I'd guess a lot of them would take that deal. Politicians are just too scared to raise cost for their own constituents.

Not unexpected but does kind of suck. Hunting other states as NR’s isn’t cheap.
It’s an investment of time and money.

Hopefully Wyoming G&F puts the money to good use (habitat) , and doesn’t just blow it all on new pick ups and pay raises.
YEah, get rid of some GD beetle kill !
