Wyoming antelope draw

I didnt draw either. But, i fkd up and applied type 1 with 4 points. Wasnt aware of a type 2 tag. Needed 8 damn points to get type 1 and only 2 points for type 2. So , no antelope for me. Had to request a refund on plane ticket since i was sure i would draw a 2 pt tag with 4. First time ive made that mistake.

I drew 22 also. You doing private ground or public ?

We’re doing public, I don’t have any connections up there to try and find private land to access, we have one of the cabins rented at Indian Campground in Buffalo
You should have pretty decent hunting. Don't expect any huge bucks on public land, but there are usually decent ones around. After they get a little bit of pressure, expect to play the corner/property line game. OnX will be your friend in that respect. Along those lines, Beware of Iberlin Four-Mile Road that leads down/up into a large chunk of BLM ground. It is NOT a public road despite appearing to be. It's an oilfield lease road. Generally, they're not real friendly to "trespassers". Beware of oilfield traffic, most of them will damn near run you off the road.

Much of the area was burned by a pretty bad fire a couple years ago that really messed up the hunting that fall. When I was out there a couple weeks ago, it was some of the nicest, greenest grass around.

I run in this area from time to time trucking and live in Sundance (About 2 hours away) as well as having hunted it some. You are both welcome to PM me with any questions.

Thank you, we’re not looking for trophies, just want to get my Dad on one, I’ll definitely keep all that in mind and reach out when we get closer

Two fellas I got to know and became friends with from back East that hunted that unit last year both filled their tags in a couple days. One was opening morning. The other took a couple of days but had several opportunities prior to filling the tag.

That’s good to know

Fun little data point. Went in the special draw with 6 points. Last year it was 100% at 3 points and 30% at 2 points. I didn’t draw. Hard to believe 3+ points of point creep

I think what people miss here with unexpected point creep is how small some of the sample sizes are for nonresidents. A nonresident pool with 10 tags or less can swing wildly from year to year for no real reason other than a handful of higher point holders jumped in. If you look at hunt codes with 40+ tags, the creep is much more consistent and predictable. Look at unit 48 this year compared to last. Last year 75% of applicants drew in the special random. This year it was 3/200!!!

All of this is to say, if the pool of tags is small it is a total crap shoot. Don’t let any tag service convince you otherwise.

Good info. The tag that I didn’t get with 6 points that was 100% last year at 3, has tag numbers from 70-100 tags per year

Put in for special to get us to 100% odds and didn’t draw. Same thing happened last year. Amazing that an animal that seems to be everywhere is so difficult to get a tag for. Deer and elk seem to be thought more highly of and I swear it’s easier to get tags for them. My .02 nobody asked for, haha

I did same along with buddy..I had 8 pts, he had 7. put in individually.....both struck out on goat..I drew deer with 1 pt...WTH ?

Thanks for the offer. I broke down and bit the bullet and hired a guide so I’d have access. Getting to old to mess around with points anymore

Solid point creep this year! Pretty crazy to give yourself a 1 point cushion and be nowhere close to drawing a tag 😂.

Man after looking over the draw data across the state... yikes. For anyone just getting into or considering getting into the preference points game, BLUF is that you have three realistic options.

1, army of orange units
2, wait til some time in the 2030s lol
3, go guided

Yeah point creep is crazy. As an older guy waiting 10yrs to draw isn’t an option. That’s why I went with the guided option. Going to be fun and I get to hunt. I didn’t draw any tags in my home state on NV, so had to do something

I did some math on this recently. With how many points are required to draw decent hunts these days, it is often cheaper to go guided or pay a trespass fee in addition to saving years off your life waiting in lines that only get longer every season. I haven't done it yet but looking into it next year for sure
