Results will be May 21

And, you do not get a point with your unsuccessful app. Those are only purchased during the point only app period, which has now expired.
What? Point only already expired? Wtf, it's not even 2020 yet.

Which I find really strange. It seems like a lost opportunity to gain revenue.

Where's Buzz.

October 31 was the deadline to buy PP - a long time ago
For 2019..... Correct?

Duh. I don't think this matters for me as I drew a tag in 2019. I will just need to make sure I get a point this year.

You can buy a point in 2020 in July - October but you can't use it until the 2021 applications open

PM me if anyone wants to talk WY 2020 elk areas. I’m sitting on 9 pts with two other guys and have a few good resources to wade through options.

I’m also well-aware that there are several generous elk hunters will to share my points on a general hunt, so no need to reiterate that strategy 🤣!

Posted a question along these lines a week ago and didn’t get anything useful.

WY- boycott those bastards for outfitter welfare and the ridiculous duration between application deadline and drawing.

CO- Show those hippies who pays the bills by not buying any tags until they kill this wolf reintroduction nonsense (actually saw this recommendation today)

MT- boycott the damn FWP for being in bed with ranchers and declaring war on elk for 6 months a year!

UT- God damned flatbill instabros. Public land stealin, corrupt tag sellin bastards. Won’t see a dime of mine.

NM- more outfitter and landowner welfare, they can get bent!

Well what’s the material difference between applying in January and holding your money till June or just applying in May if you can cancel? Outfitters don’t need the application system to strike contracts with clients.

I’m really glad no one was able to answer this question with a logical response. Or sad. Glad or sad. One of those.

If you're a nr with limited funds and wanting to hunt with an outfitter in the west the answer is pretty clear. You won't be applying to NM, UT, NV, or AZ when your funds are tied up in WY till June. Most of those outfitters want you in the special side, at $1300. In case anybody missed it, they tried to switch the nr regular/special quotas from 60/40 to 40/60 regular special a cpl years ago.

I think that’s a stretch. The deposit on the hunt is going to $1000 or more and most won’t return it if you don’t draw, they hold it until you do. So why hold the tag $ hostage too?

I told you what their belief is,and it's in an email. That's why the Jan 31 close date stayed the same. It would have been real easy to just combine the nr elk draw with the deer/antelope draw, which is what was supposed to happen. WYOGA stood up there and said NR won't apply for deer/antelope unless the Elk draw results are released first. That's why results are may 21; "there will be an increase in nr deer/antelope applications..."
WYOGA is the expert on everything NR and they've said so. And there's nobody to dispute it. Buzz and Jeff do what they can but there's no reason for them to get twisted up with nr issues with some of the flack they get on forums.

I'm in the process of talking with a Wyoming outfitter about 2020 elk. I figured Wyoming would be a good state to use an outfitter due to the wilderness laws. When he mentioned the draw being pushed back to May, my first question was did they push back the application deadline too? No (he didn't think so).

So now I have to pay him a $1900 deposit and give the state $700-$1300 in January. Only to wait in uncertainty until mid-May. The outfitter does have a policy for a full refund if cancelled by June 1st. But the more I think about the money and dates, the more I think it all sucks. I may be putting Wyoming elk back on the DIY list.

You don't have to pay an outfitter anything, plenty of elk outside the wilderness areas. IMO, if the outfitter is worth a damn, he wouldn't force you to send a deposit until after you draw.

There is NO way I would book a hunt with an outfitter that demanded a deposit before I drew the tag.
