Would you buy this scope?

Actually a 4-8 with a flipper would be the shit... never need less than 4 and really never need more than 8 for this kind of optic. No need for anything in between.
I was just thinking of this.
Like elcans 1x & 4x flipper you mean?

Full disclosure I have never used one, and they may have drawbacks that aren't good for hunting scopes. Just sounds good on paper to me with zero research

I'm a FFP guy but gimme a SFP on a 2-8 unless going crazy and doing DFP.
As long as its a usable reticle from min to max I don't know why I'd not buy FFP for everything (exaggeration), never having to ever consider what magnification you are on for the holds to hold (pun intended) meaning all day long please. With the obvious caveat of being usable at min thru max as noted.

I’m open to being persuaded based on actual reticle execution. I just don’t think it’d be too much of an issue with such a scope.

Pointing to the RS1.2 I think makes the point ... Maven listened to Form and Ryan about the need for a more functional reticle, and we got the SHR-MIL, which borrows a little from the THLR. Great.

But then they openly joked on podcasts about how they thought the drop testing was silly and made derogatory comments about Rokslide/rs in general. So - listen to what end users want, provide it, sell them like hotcakes, and then burn your market. It doesn't get much more clueless than that.
I was close to getting the RS 1.2 the weight is what is holding me back. I'll probably end up with the Credo if nothing else new comes out.

I really like the SWFA 3-15 that I have. I wish it had an illuminated dot it would be great. The mill quad reticle is pretty good until it gets tiny

How so? If you're on 5 power vs 8 power the hashes are going to be notable different and not easy mental math. At close range the difference wouldn't manifest too much but further out it would. Whether you are on 8x for further out is entirely dependent on how forgiving the eyebox is and FOV. If those are solid then maybe you're on 8x but there is always the mental question of remembering if you are or aren't. FFP that question doesn't exist, the hash marks measure the same think all the time.

I agree with this, as minimal as I would NEED FFP in 2-8, at the same time it wouldnt be hard to just make it a decent ffp reticle.
Several scopes have shown that

Many people might be surprised at how high the margins are on some scopes ... I'm not going to post the details here, as I don't want to derail the thread, but if you go back and listen to one of Frank's podcasts, he quotes how much it actually costs to make some scopes ... from memory, even he was surprised when he found out. And I think if many hunters found out, they'd be outraged.

This creates two key issues; first, some companies make large profits by selling junk when they could make something quality and still be profitable. Second, consumers become inoculated to think that 'quality scopes must cost $x' when that isn't the case. This is not the model of flawless capitalism in my high school economics textbook of consumers having all the information they need, and the choices they want, to get the outcomes they need.

Form has posted many times here about how the industry is not necessarily interested in either making stuff that works, standing by what they produce, or understanding what we need.

In my dealings in the optics industry, there is a shit ton of markup on optics in general.

There's a shit ton of margin on many consumer goods. I work in the furniture industry. People would have a stroke if they knew the margins.

Can someone point me to the post showing the reticle? I went back through to look at it again but don't have time for 103 pages and I'm failing at using the search function for pictures.
