I’m with you. Somewhere around 5 years old I discovered Jack O’Connor and sheep. Now, at 62 I have my 1st hunt booked, mostly paid for and all my prep work/buying done. The pessimist in me says I’m screwed. I talked with my outfitter in the Yukon and he understandably has no answers right now. I guess we’ll see.

Trip cancellation insurance....

This.
But like some have said - that aint happening now unless you are booking a new trip.

If the trips don't happen, I'm sure the outfitters would at least try to work something out. I was scheduled for a trip in 2008 and had paid deposit - lost job and couldn't go - started a bad period for us - outfitter tried to get me to come and hunt for like the next 3 years. Was very nice of him. I never did go on that outfitted hunt but did OTC instead - 9 years later.

Yep trip insurance, you buy when you book. Just like buying medi vac, sar insurance—buy when you book make it all part of your package. I really hope everyone of us that have trips planned are able to go, we’ll see. We have a May bear trip as well and told my buddy going if we aren’t able to go I think that means we have way bigger worries. Hope to be able to do Sept. elk? Stay safe..

I am relieved to live in MT where hunting is really accessible, and spring bear and turkey are close at hand. I thankfully have zero $$ tied up in hunts in other states or countries, so no hand-wringing or worry on that front.

Right now, we are, like pretty much everyone, hunkering down and trying to collectively lessen the impact of C19 as a whole. Hunting right now is pretty low on the priority list; more concerned about current and future money issues, working from home and putting out fires with work, ensuring our son is healthy, and keeping tabs on two family members in separate states who would be considered 'at risk'. This will get markedly worse before it gets better, but it will get better. I will put attention on upcoming hunts after the priorities are addressed.

Stay in, stay healthy. (or go outside to some nice remote areas!)

this shit doesn't blow over by august we might have bigger problems then our hunts.
Perspective, fellas! Do your diligence and shelter in place for the old folks around you, don't worry about the hunts....bigger fish to fry right now. My wife and I are already cancelling trips and long-anticipated plans.
Get your families, young and old safely through this.

Considering that C19 infects mammals, us, our pets... we can spread this to wildlife. I can see, "out of an abundance of caution" all seasons being canceled.

Right now everything is in flux. I certainly hope hunting season remains open. But, I am not going to count my chickens before they hatch.

I too have a hunt booked for sheep in mid August. The area I live has not seen a huge surge in cases yet but that may be from lack of tests rather than actual infections or it could be the restrictions put in place are working. most estimates are that the US is about 2-3 weeks behind what has happened in other countries.
My speculation is any spring hunts are not going to happen. By August, there were still be hotspots of covid19, probably in larger metropolitan areas, and decreased flight options. So that may mean you will have to add a day or two of travel each way.
We should all still keep training for our hunts and if they don't happen, at least we all got in better shape.

I have a simple strategy. I'll worry about it when there is something to worry about. What I mean by that is wait and see. The here and now is what I am spending my time on. I have a hunt booked and paid for in Alaska in Sept. It will either be a go or it won't. Pretty sure it will be a go, but I'm not going to spend time on it until July. When the weather permits, I hike with a 100lb pack (its a moose hunt). I'll keep doing that until I leave, or the zombies attack.

Today, March 20, 2020, I have guys that work under me that need their jobs. They have family. They are family. I have real family that I'd like to see daily for a long, long time. I'll survive a missed hunt. I'll move the dates if possible, or work to make the money back. Maybe I'll never do that hunt. Oh well, it was my best effort, and I'll be satisfied with that. I've given my best and failed before. I can make peace with that.

When life gives you lemons...........make something with vodka. Lemonade has no kick.

This. I have a hunt planned and flights booked to Fairbanks in August. I’ll do my part, which is to prepare, and to make sure I take care of the here-and-now, so that if planes are flying in August, I can go with as little stress as possible. Whiskey for me, please.

I know I will be hunting sheep in August for sure. Not sure where or exactly when and for how long, but I moved to AK for this specifically! Can’t stop AK residents from hunting!

Headed into work in a few hours, and being an ICU nurse with a positive pt. on the unit, has got me a bit concerned. Feeling like I’m about to walk into a shit storm, and my hunting season is pretty much the last thing on my mind right now.
