Why so many brown coats?

A more light hearted thread, but whats up with all the "Western" big game brands only offering solid color coats in some type of brown? For example, looking at First Lite's new Chamberlin, Sitka's Kelvin, or Kifaru's Lost Park Parka the ONLY solid color offering they have for them is Brown. Where's the love for Green, OD, Pine, Ranger, etc something!!! To me if I spend a couple hundred dollars on a coat I'd like to wear it around town too sometime.

I sent a message to First Lite no word back yet maybe they'll get to on their Live event tomorrow, Kifaru said no plans for a green. Lets see if there are any others on Rokslide who would want a green solid color option to pick from!!!!

Personally growing up as a flat lander whitetail hunting I'm AFRAID, SCARED, TERRIFIED even to wear a brown coat in the woods. I've heard "If its brown its down" more times than there are cheeseheads in Lambeau on a Sunday in November!!

GIVE US THE GREEN!!!! lol

*pretty please?

I just buy all my solid color clothing from non-hunting companies now. If you really like green, you should look at Fjallraven jackets.

Versatility combined with supply & demand. Brown tends to blend in to more areas than green, so it will be more popular across a wider range. Just here in SD, brown is going to blend it a lot better on the prairie and it still works fine in the conifers up in the Black Hills. Combine that with the fact that these companies need to make sure that they're selling as much of their minimum order quanitity as possible to avoid 1000 green Chamberlain jackets sitting on the shelves at the end of the year. Also, people tend to be a lot pickier about the perfect shade of green (like you said, you've got pine, OD, ranger, conifer, etc), wheras coyote/DE brown is fairly universal.

If you want more green jackets on the market, then continue to band together with like minded coat purchasers and eventually the market will adjust.

As an aside, most flat lander whitetail states are also blaze orange states, which means you always have the option to wear a handsome orange vest to declare your non-ungulate status.

The wearing brown more applied to when I go out west. Here at home your correct most require blaze and I go 100% blaze jacket and hat. Hoping to find that group of hunters who want green so we can get a little leverage with these coat colors

Well I bought my Uncompaghre in conifer, so I've done my part to support your grassroots movement. Good luck!

I have an HPG windcheater in manatee gray that gets a lot of use in the woods and around town.

That's 1! I was originally going to go with the Uncompaghre in conifer but I run cold especially siting glassing or in a tree stand so I wanted something warmer. The Chamberlin is just a pretty penny for a coat I'd wear ~ 2 weeks out of the year give or take. We'll see I might break down.

But if you see this First Lite or Kifaru make a Chamberlin or LPP in green and I'm in that faster then a fat kid at a buffet! First one wins my money!

*But to be honest I'd probably end up with both if they both came in green

I also like to declare my non ungulate status in green. I got the green uncompagre. But like the other dude mentioned I am a little picky about my greens. I love the ranger color. And the first light Pine.

I’ve noticed from a distance looking at other hunters that solid colors can break up the human form and actually be harder to see than a guy in full camo. Do a test you might be surprised. I like to wear tan pants for hunting for this reason.
Breaks up my human form Better.. Look at a Mtn lion...they are tan not camo

And elk, and cougar, and bear or black. Exactly why I'm scared to death of wearing tan or black. I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm scared for my life. It's not a fashion statement.

Wonder what is more common or likely to happen, be mailed by a mt lion/black bear while in the woods or shot by a hunter while wearing brown?

you can find just about any color solid in the diarrhea rainbow if you step outside the hunting world. A few features not withstanding most of your name brand high end hunting clothing is more or less just a copy of a piece of mountaineering gear cut for average or bigger sized people like Bubba, with the latest camo printed on it.
Aside from that nifty logo you won’t be missing out on much by shopping at rei or northface if you know what you are looking for, you might even save some coin.
Of course you won’t be supporting the hunting clothing industry but I’m pretty sure they can get by without you.

I went with the Sitka Jetstream jacket in green, I won't wear brown in the woods during rifle season either. Or buy a coyote colored pack, I have a green Exo. It just takes one idiot that thinks I'm an elk...

When rifle hunting I wrap an old lightweight orange vest around my pack. Actually I usually always have it on there it helps me find it when I set it down and have to come back for it

Exactly, the OR Ferrosi comes in some great colors for hunting; one example out of many. Once someone feels free to look outside "huntwear" companies it is like a new world of high performance. Many "tactical" companies offer good options in RG, OD, or foliage. Just a thought.

I love Sitka and FL but I find myself only purchasing outerwear tops in camo and everything else in solids.

To be quite honest I do not understand the hesitation some individuals have with wearing various browns. Not necessarily criticizing it, just saying I think there are better outlets for concerns.

So to give even more rational, I think because I want it and others obviously do to is enough tho. While I could go to non-hunting clothing manufacturers generally I found a lot of their products to be less durable then purpose built hunting clothes. Now that obviously goes both ways where some hunting clothes are very fragile and non hunting is rather tough but like I said generally its the other way around for me. Next I don't need want any crazy color I'd be fine with O.D green, most hunting clothing manufactures seem fine in using a military type color in coyote for every piece of clothing they make whats wrong with OD green and doing the same. I'm not asking for a sunset yellow, the request makes sense. And to be fair while most might be picky about a green and there being lots of options. Someone could be just as picky about brown and there are lots of options and I've seen them from Coyote, sand, tan, brown, caribou even. So me it seems like a non issue, a manufacturer makes a solid brown they should make a solid green option. But hey I'm just the dufus siting in the woods waiting for dinner to show up.

thanks to the others who voiced their desires for a solid green option keep them coming. And I agree solids can be just as good at breaking up an outline as a full camo, plus I can go out to dinner with the wife in a solid jacket.
