Why NOT a Tikka?

I didn’t think they’d need any, but this thread has started at a flaw with the bolt to needing the barrel replaced lol. If it needs all that, why get one to start with, or just build a custom
My take was that Tikkas are highly customizable; not that there is a need. And for those with some skill, even changing the barrel on your own. In short, you can pick up a fluted Tikka for a grand, a KRG for 350-ish and but a prefit, all fairly cheaply. It can be done over time keeping the rifle in service. That there is very appealing to many.

I bought the least expensive Tikka I could find (synthetic/blued .223) fully expecting to upgrade the stock, bottom metal, bolt knob, etc.

A couple of years later and I see no need to do any of those things. Nice rifles. I plan to buy a few more.

And I’m not knocking tikka by any means. The one I fondled several years back had the smoothest action I’ve ever cycled. Wasn’t mine so I didn’t shoot it. Just didn’t realize all these needs were there to make a nice rifle.

Now you're being utterly ridiculous. But I'll say it anyway. A stock Tikka doesn't need anything. Guys just like to personalize their rifles.

Who doesnt like a fluted bolt, barrel, carbon barrel, customizable stock...

For those considering a Tikka, or any other factory option, be sure you fondle a Winchester M70 first. IMO, for $150-$200 more, you get A LOT more value and a rifle that looks and feels more solid. Decent stock and decent trigger, no plastic. Best sub $1000 option IMO.

Better yet, find a slightly used New Haven built used M70 Classic with the old style open trigger for about the same money.
i personally still go with tikka, even if they were all the exact same price. i also am putting it in aftermarket furniture.... none of them will fit me right out of the box, and i have fought that enough in my life.... every rifle i own going forward will fit me properly.... tikka has a ton of options there, at all price points.... they are the toyota tacoma of rifles.... nothing special, just functional and practical with a ton of aftermarket support.

we are fairly spoiled with all of the rifle options today that are mostly accurate.

i went away from tikka for several years, no reason besides i was curious and i never liked tikka factory stocks, recently got another tikka and forgot how nice they actually are as far as smooth action, easy running, and a factory trigger i have no desire to change

Or just buy a nice rifle to start with that doesn’t need all the upgrades to start with.
like what?

that's the deal with a tikka, if you are happy with a stock tikka, they are great out of the box, if you want to customize it, you have tons of options, and will be money ahead of buying a "nice rifle" that doesn't need upgrades.

my current tikka is about 1400$ as it sits without optic, there is not a rifle in that price range i would consider over what i have. what in that price range can hang with a tikka in a krg bravo?

of course we all value different things, if you like a beautiful hardwood stock and a blued barrel, there are better options, i just want something that shoots well and fits me perfect and is reliable, doesn't need to look cool, doesn't need cosmetically pleasing detail, just something that shrugs off punishment and shoots well.... i like em ugly, functional, and reliable

Modified my $500 Tikka with a $6 trigger spring.

#highroller
i assume this is common knowledge, but where do you get that 6$ spring? i remember seeing that mentioned here before, and i want to order one.

how much did you get out of your old spring? i was thinking about posting mine for 2.15$ buyer pays shipping and paypal fees;) that would relieve some of the burden of the price of the aftermarket spring, then i would only be out about a cup of mid grade gas

Not sure where the six dollar one is but Mountain Tactical has one for 9.99. Might push your budget a little more but just skip a couple meals and your good to go.

I will purchase that date. But I am telling you I'm setting you up with, nor the pronoun they use 😂
