Why is Seek Outside giving gun control advocate Ryan Busse air time?

I know the above is somewhat tongue in cheek, but it is still a good policy (IMHO) to listen/read before taking a firm stance on something. This time your suspicions turned out to be well founded and correct.

This thread reminded me of a thread a few years ago about “Misfire” (the Tim Mak book about the NRA) and some who refused to read the book or consider the message because they didn’t like the messenger. As posted above by @realunlucky, it’s better to know.
Agreed completely. I definitely risked jumping the gun here, and in hindsight should’ve listened to the thing before posting. Yes, the above post was meant to be tongue in cheek.

But I knew who Busse was and just how vitriol he was, and I already has some misgivings about SO. I’ve been around the sun enough to trust my gut and see a pattern.

Like I said I’m disappointed more than anything.

Damn so this guy made a ton of money off of hunters and probably hated us the whole time. If hunters stop supporting them they will definitely take notice. I know they sell a lot to hikers too but you'd have to be a hell of a granola packer to fork over the cash for their gear. Hunters are generally willing to pay for top quality gear because it will actually see hard use. Not just summer camping. I think hunters make up a lot of their customer base from what I've seen. But I don't think they like that obviously.
Granolas crunches and mountaineering spend money hunters never dreamed

Had no idea seek outside was like this. Use there packs and tents but will no longer be using any of it. I have pushed there products for years but that stops here. Looking forward to hearing Kevin’s response

Pretty clear where SO priorities lie. All we can do is decide, based on that, is whether or not we will actively support them. I personally have a silex, courthouse, cimarron, various nests. I oved their products. But now that I am no longer ignorant about the policy that they support I am accountable. And so I will send them exactly zero more dollars. Nobody is perfect. But there is a difference between a pattern and a mistake. This is clearly a pattern. I would also bet a lot of money that Kevin and SO refuse to engage in this discussion on a forum that they have no control over.

Age of a podcast/info is irrelevant - it's when the information becomes known.

If you found our your wife cheated on you two years ago and you just found out now would you be as blithe?

Busse is a hot mess. Read his Gunfight book - there is a great deal of vitriol toward Kimber's founders, and also you AR-toting Americans. Any book that starts out "I was at the BLM rally" you know will be a doozy.
I don't disagree. It's just funny I don't think this has been brought up before, so it took two years for anyone to notice.

I disagree. Right is right, and wrong is wrong. In this case he was right.

This thread has been very good in the regard our members have been civil, and mostly kept things accurate and without too much speculation. That's what generally gets threads shut down. Several threads ended because of the opposite, then some cry foul like their is an ulterior motive to protect the thread subject/person/company.

What could they even say ? I think it would be hard to do any sort of damage control and this point.

I was looking at one of their packs too. Was.

I’m glad Kevin can have his political views, and I can have mine.
Plenty of good people have laid their lives down so we can be free to have different views.
I’m also glad I have plenty of other choices, kinda bummed I can’t support that hometown business anymore.

As this blows up? The podcast happened over a year ago. This will be forgotten again by the time the snow melts.
It flew under the radar. Simple as that.

It's out of the bag now, doesn’t matter when it was said, and a lot of people here aren't going to forget it. I think the blowback is just ramping up.

Like I said, guys who don't take the time to care (or appreciate their freedom) will be our undoing. Don't be one of them.

I’ll take an apology from all those guys on page 1/2 who were trying to insinuate I was just being unnecessarily divisive by questioning SO motives. 😉😂

I reserved judgement until I heard it because that was the reasonable thing to do.

You were right though.

Now this kinda makes me mad. Rifle and a pack and then pictures of fishing.........

Well glad this came to light, I can’t purchase from a company with so much hate on its mind. Really wasn’t expecting to see this about SO but that company won’t get another cent from me either way, could careless what their response is to it, just another company to take off a list but glad there are other great companies out there to support.

Yeah, there is a reason my title was posed as a question. “Why is SO giving a gun control advocate air time?”

Well we found out why. Trust me, I’d have rather had my assumptions been wrong.

I don’t understand. He was right after the fact. What if the podcast *had been* some sort of civil discourse - possibly even with give and take and some concessions made by this Busse character? In hindsight that seems obviously ridiculous, but how would one know before listening?

Agreed.
