Who Hunts Using Suppressed Guns?

I don't own one. I see the benefits. But everything costs money, and Lets see....$750 gun, $350 scope, another $900 for scope coming this fall, $400 stock, base and rings...reloading supplies....etc, etc,etc, etc,...Lord.....

Not in the cards anytime soon. Unless there is a lightweight, short, effective one out there for a couple hundred bucks.

First and only time was the rental .300wm I used in Africa.
I feel in love!! Only time in my life I heard the bullet impact animals I was shooting at. Plus the visual of watching bullet impact through scope. Game changer. Never had that happen with my own .300.
I want to get one for my 2 main hunting rifles. Browning A bolt 300wm and 338 ruger.
I’m so tight I can’t crap a greased BB, so I doubt I’ll spend the money.

I have 4, soon to be 5. I won’t shoot a gun without one. All my guns except one have 20” or shorter barrels. My girls love their quiet guns.

Always, I'm trying to preserve my hearing for as long as possible. I almost always shoot suppressed even when target shooting.

I have two hunting rifles set up for suppressors. I have 3 rifles that are not. I have found that I prefer hunting big game without a suppressor.

Varmint shooting/hunting 100 percent suppressed.

Why is everyone’s experience with cutting and rethreading a barrel? Is this so common that most gunsmiths do a great job, or is it somewhat common to have issues?

I’m looking to chop mine to 20” and pick up a suppressor.

Never used one in 75 years of shooting. Don't plan on setting up one of my guns to use one either. I use good high grade ear protection during all of my shooting except for hunting. I also wear hearing aids that are setup to compensate for loud noises. I wear the aids because of working all my career around rivet guns, jet engines and heavy machinery, not from shooting noise!

Damage is cumulative. This is like saying you had a heart attack because you smoked for 30 years and not because you are 350 pounds and eat McDonald's every day. Fixing one is better than nothing, but fixing both is best. At over 75, probably not much value left to you in getting a muffler, but for younger individuals their is, or if you shoot with grandkids.

I have hunted with supressor once. That was enough experience to say no more. Having supressor on hunting rifle is cumbersome when spot and stalk in heavy timber. But I understand trend from hunters using blind or backcountry hunters who strapping guns to backpack.

It was set up wrong. I bust alders and brush so thick you literally have to crawl over things with a suppressed rifle.

You can always unscrew the muffler and get the handling of a 16 inch barrel if needed, but the need is not really there.

I am kicking this off with my first suppressed rifle, my Ruger American Ranch gen 2 5.56 rifle. I had fast results of getting my silencer tax stamp with the help of the Silencer Shop.

I've had two of my rifles cut and threaded and paid $125 for each. Accuracy was unchanged.

Most gunsmiths should be able to do a good job. But the only gunsmiths local to me who don’t have a huge waitlist are the ones I would not trust to install a new sling. So I usually send them off. I used UM for one of them. No issues at all. I have used Silencer Central’s service for four rifles without complaint. And I have two at Kampfeld Customs right now.

Californians. Couple other states. CT doesn’t let you hunt with them. Should be mandatory across the board and sold as accessories not controlled items

I do whenever possible.

I now own 4 cans and hope to make it 6 by the end of the year. Once you put a can on one rifle, it makes it really hard to enjoy shooting the others.
